Just got an alert from VARIETY which said... Columbia Pictures is getting serious about scaring up a new installment of its blockbuster "Ghostbusters" franchise.

The studio has set "The Office" co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

Studio would not comment on the development and has been mum on recent rumors that there was interest in making a new installment of the franchise

I loved the GHOSTBUSTERS movie. They were silly and loads of fun...

Freaky, because just a couple of weeks ago I was thinking about Ghostbusters and whether another Ghostbusters would be made (since they made another Indiana Jones and Die Hard, why not Ghostbusters?)

that rumor spring up every couple of years. there was an idea for a "ghostbusters in hell" movie, but it would requite a lot of green screen work & bill murray didn't want to do it. there is a ghostbusters video game with the original cast voices (except for rick moranis(sp?) who apparently is living of the honey i shrunk.... movies money) dan akroyd said; "it's the closest we'll ever get to a third movie."
