Yew is not a good shrub to leave lying around. I don't know about deer, but it will kill cows. We nearly lost two cows who got into yew clips. Ours were much greener than yours so maybe another kind of yew, but it can cause yewtexas poisoning.
And the pruners with the the blowdryer...umm..planning to get a trim?
