There were apparently several stylistic changed in the new DVD release, such as new camera angles, different editing, new music, etc. Haven't watched it myself, I'm only going by what I've been hearing.
BW has often said the nude scenes in the pilot were required by the network (Showtime) and/or an artistic decision by the director, and he never liked having those scenes.
I've always found it interesting there was never any nudity or anything else that would have to be edited for reairing in syndication though. Which is why a lot of people watching the pilot on DVD were a little surprised by the nudity.
I know a couple of other shows on Showtime around the same time period aired the "naughty" version that later appeared on DVD, but an edited version was out for broadcast syndication.
Showtime usually has language or something that gets broadcast censors in a lather. I would actually expect some swearing from a military team, but I guess they went to Disney Boot Camp. *g*
