CW to air 2-hour Justice Society-themed SMALLVILLE movie

Excerpt: Entertainment Weekly has learned that the CW are planning to air the upcoming Justice Society-heavy Smallville two-parter (“Society” and “Legends) as a two hour movie event on January 29th 2010. Penned by comic bookwriter Geoff Johns, the television movie will feature the arrival of Justice Society members Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Doctor Fate (Brent Stait), Stargirl (Britt Irvin), and the return of Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter. The storyline apparently involves Clark crossing paths with the Justice Society characters, who have come out of retirement to meet up with an old foe.

and.... got an email from Creation. David Hewlett will be doing the April 2010 Vancouver Stargate con in Vancouver. Ah, to dream. He's there, Jason, Joe and more....(including Brian J. Smith of SGU, whom I honestly wouldn't mind seeing).  Gold tickets are $579. Heck, it's the airfare, the hotel, etc. and photo ops that would kill me. I need a new car.... Drat, wish they'd do a con like that on the EAST coast.

And guess I'll be watching SMALLVILLE again. Haven't watched it in years...

Wow! Now that's a con I'd love to go to---seeing the guys reunited would be awesome! I'm sure they will have a great time and provide a lot of laughs for the crowd. Hopefully people will be posting pictures/videos/reports. Alas, that's the only way I'll be experiencing the con.

Yup, hoping there will be plenty of fan coverage> right now I'm culling links from Joe F's last couple cons. I've fallen behind, so will have 2-3 LJ entries just filled with links to con reports, vids and pictures :)

The Justice League and the Justice Society are two different groups, the Justice Society being the older of the two. And from what little I've gathered about Smallville, the Justice League doesn't exist yet.

I've never seen Smallville, but I'm not sure how I feel about Michael Shanks being Hawkman in any capacity. He just seems too... small. On the other hand, if they go with the character's usual costume, he'll be shirtless for at least a good portion of the episodes.

Ooooh I'll be looking forward to that! Thanks!

Vancouver is so close yet so far (I live in Alberta also, it's like a 12hr drive(?) or an 1hr flight to get there)...and the Con is also very expensive...not even including accommodations! =(
I need to graduate and get a full time job STAT!

frankly i wouldn't bother with Smallville. It was Superman lite when it began. Nine years later and after countless liberties with canon, it couldn't be further removed from the Superman storyline.

I don't follow Smallville really, but I'll check it out if Geoff Johns is writing an episode.

It's the friggin' cost that stops me. If you want to do the breakfast/dessert stuff, it gets costly. Cocktail stuff? Exhorbitant!

I'll watch it for Michael but otherwise have seen maybe a dozen eps then faded off.

I hadn't watched Smallville in years but then it moved to Fridays and since there's nothing else on Friday nights ;-), I've started watching it again. It's kind of fun, they've obviously been influenced by the Batman movies but it's been a fun romp so far. I'd watch it regardless of who was playing Hawkman, just to see the Justice Society. Thanks

Wonder how that con's gonna work out with the SGA cast and so far one lone SGU guy?

Ok that's what I was looking for.

I don't watch Smallville, but the comic geek in me bristled for a second.

I am following Smallville, and now Shanks comes on board, my screen with explodes with all the hotness that he and Tom Welling are.

When did it move to Friday? I am Out.Of.Touch!

Hopefully the fans will be nice to the SGu actor. He's a nice guy and it's not his fault the writing just isn't Emmy-award winning stuff ;)
