After watching that show for years, I came up with the phrase "windex future." Its for all those shows that envision the future somehow so much cleaner than it is right now. Space1999 was all white uniforms, clear plexiglass, chrome and white surfaces. I always imagined that after the 'important people' went to bed, the cleaning crew came out with large cans of windex and started to wipe everything down. In scifi shows, not only are there few or no bathrooms, but people dont leave their coke bottles laying around, or spill their coffee. There are no sesame seeds sprinkled in the crevices from a mcdonald's burger. and no dust bunnies, or fingerprints on computer laptop screens. no trashcans either. Always thought that one of the best parts of the movie Aliens was how it saw people as people. The ship had maintenance issues. things dripped. the air was stale. they were messy at dinner and their clothes looked like something real people wore when they worked and sweated. In Aliens, the people on that ship farted.
