Losing a pet is always hard, and the constant reminders are always there.
I know when I get my westies hair cut, the clouds of white fluff deny even the dyson...and as for my new black rug!
As you already know, it will get eventually easier though, but I agree with you about not jumping into getting another dog. They are wonderful loyal pets, but take a lot of work and time, and life being what it is, you are really being responsible considering it carefully before going down that route again...at least for now!
