I'd heard about the chitosan bandages from my cousin who's a chopper pilot in Afghanistan (seriously, I'd bugged for some details which will hopefully work their way into my next fic - he flies support for the medics, so he's learned the basics of first aid). Apparently these bandages are pretty amazing, although he wasn't happy leanrning to use them on pig carcasses. Elephants are pretty smart, but I also heard along similar lines that the bears in one of the national parks (Yellowstone I think) had learned certain car makes and models were easier to break into in search of food. I just worry what happens when cats evolve opposable thumbs!
