If only I'd had a camera in hand, but I had clothespins and wet clothes. I was just outside hanging some wash when I spied movement in the overgrown backyard. Deer. Two does and two gorgeous, very energetic little fawns. One of the does is my three-legged deer, who is obviously still doing well. The little fawns were running all over the place, then they vanished into the bushes, so I figured, that's it, then one came back, shooting across the upper portion the lawn, then the adults came aorund with the other fawn, then... one fawn just shot down the lawn and stopped within three feet of me. I just stood there, water dripping from a shirt in hand, and watched. One doe ran up but stopped twenty feet away, having seen me, then did a U-turn and went back up into the bushes. A moment later the fawn ran past me to join the adults. Oh, if only I'd had a camera or better yet, a camcorder in hand.

UPDATE: Wed. And the three-legged deer was in back yard this morning when I went out to feed the birds. We stared at each other and she hopped off. And she's eating the wild patch of vines, etc. Yes, eat, eat! Less hacking for me.

I was just outside and the rain is coming down very gently. . . very quietly. There was something almost ethereal about it as I stood on my covered porch in the courtyard and looked at it and then later in front overlooking my patio.
I can only imagine what it would be like if there were deer about
Lucky you!

I'm sure they go through during the rain, but then I'm indoors, or at work. Darn.

Thanks. Now if I can just get rid of the invasive weeds and the poison ivy...

Sometimes it works out nice like that.

It's like that by my uncles place, he lives at the top of a mountain and fronts a state park. Every time I saw the deer I wasn't fast enough to get the shot until the last day (they left and came back to look at me) and even then it turned out a little blurry

Damn, i wish i had your backyard, that is so cool. Wish you had your camera too! lol.

All we get are cats who come to use our garden as a toilet.

Is it just me, or is the poison ivy extra-happy and healthy this year? It's decided to make itself into a lovely groundcover in some areas of my back yard. And in the overgrown part of the yard, I realized it's established itself as the underlayer to everything.

It's EVERYWHERE. Even a friend in Wisconson who has NEVER had poison ivy in yard has it this year. It's going to take over the world. Triffid junior!

We have a cat (tabby) that likes to come in yard and eat birds :( I try to chase it away when I see it.

That must be cool, to be near a state park! Usually I end up taking photos of deer through windows, so not the best. Of course, maybe I should just carry camera with me 24/7 but didn't think I'd need it while hanging wash! ;)

Nice to see tame wildlife. The bear's and coyotes, not so much unless looking out a window. I'm always afraid that I will see one while walking the dog. I walk with a cane, I can't run so I would be a dead duck.

Ugh. My brother's cat sits on the garage roof and intercepts pigeons in flight. Horrible thing. :(

goats are good for eating that stuff. also i heard that salt water sprayed on the poison ivy (leaves mostly) will do a lot to get rid of it.

I'd spray vinegar or salt over poison ivy except it's right next to dozens of gorgeous Jack in the Pulpits.

Critters and pets.

I just bought a fixer upper cabin/home in a no where town in the desert part of Oregon. Thankfully no poison ivy or oak around here. Actually not much grows around here. Still, the massive and kinds of wild life that is here in my yard is great! Big barn owls that are not afraid of me. No need for cats (not that my dog would allow it) as the owls take care of all the mice. The newts and frogs that make it into the house keeps most of the bugs off the plants :). Lots of dear going through my small pasture eating up all the alfalfa. Fox's and all kinds of birds. One of my favorite things are watching the praying mantis's hatch and going all over the yard. Cant plant much in my yard yet as the horse eats it all. Maybe next year I can get some work done in the yard and some great pics to post of the animals.
Best wishes and warm hugs
