For kitty - I keep a bundle of those chemical hand warmers in my 'power out' hit just for the cats. You can pop one or two, swap them in a towel and let the cats snuggle. You can sometimes find them really cheap at the Dollar Store. You can also warm a pouch of cat food with one in a pinch.
