Yikes! I've seen it on other places now too, but your post was the first I heard of this at the day you posted it. How awful.
John Barrowman also once almost was killed while filming the movie "Shark Attack III" (he was young and needed the money) in Bulgaria. He was supposed to dive into and out of the submarine, which was full of water, but after he had gotten in and closed the entrance the other hatch did not open. He could not go back where he had come from either, so he was stuck. He had only 2 minutes of air left in his bottle. Thankfully they realized he was not coming out and went down to get him. That really could have ended badly and we would have had no Torchwood at all :(
And do you know the story about Benedict Cumberbatch being kidnapped and almost killed in South Africa? We wouldn't have a Sherlock either, then... you can read it in his own words here:
