My library is lucky enough to be in a building with an auditorium that we take over for a week to set out our stuff for sale, so we have air conditioning, which is a must for a sale in August.
We only do "rough sort" though, putting non-fiction together by Dewey 100s (with signs indicating the types of books in each one), and hardcover/trade fiction covering one long stretch of table. The latter we do at least try to cluster books by the same author together, but it's useless to alphabetize because it would last maybe five minutes if we could ever get it done.
I know some sales ban scanners, either completely or on certain days. I'm mixed on them, because we might have a couple at each sale and can make a lot more money off them than individuals, yet if they park themselves and block others from looking or start tossing books around, then you can bet my volunteers will be fetching me to deal with it. Yay, the fun of being in charge. :)
