wraithfodder: (Shep-this sucks)

They're totally changing the dynamic of SGA and it's not for the better. Read at your own peril.

Just a few quotes from the latest issue of SciFi magazine.

"...Amanda Tapping and her character, Col. Samantha Carter, who'll be taking over as the new leader now that the TV series SG1 is coming to an end."

Cooper said "It's about time she [Carter] got a command, and we had to keep that from happening to SG1 becuase we wanted her to be part of the team."

Bad news for Weir fans: "I can't make people feel better who just love Torri and Dr. Weir and want to see her on the show," sighs [Robert C] Cooper. "Unfortunately, that's just not going to happen. All I can say is that Sam Carter is a wonderful character, and Amanda Tapping is a wonderful actress, and i think she will fill the role on Atlantis admirably. I'm excited about seeing the evolution of her character. Brad and I created the character Dr. Weir and we love the character and torri, but the change needed to be made."

-----------------------------------

Why not just cancel Atlantis, and make the third series and put Carter in command? The people at Bridge seem obsessed with having Tapping in every project they do (SG1, SGA, Sanctuary, etc.) I have nothing against the actress, but the "change needed to be made" comment is just pure crap. The people who created the show didn't know how to write Weir, so, hey, let's bring over technobabble Carter from SG1 to take her slot. The article says what TPTB have been denying - that Carter IS going to be in command of Atlantis. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks.

WHY did the change need to be made? Do they explain that? Nope.

This is going to change the dynamic of the show. Weir is out, Carter is in charge, McKay will act like an idiot around her. God, I can only hope that Shep's team gets stranded offworld for most of the season just to avoid Atlantis.

This is just my kneejerk reaction from reading the article (posted over at http://ailurophile6.livejournal.com/29013.html)

I will not watch s4. They blew up my up my favorite character for no reason and then never mentioned him again. Replaced him with "baby Barbie". I even liked firefly. Now they are putting Carter in charge! I don't like Carter and I never have. Nothing against AT. She will out rank Shep and Rodney will be dummied up to the alter of Carter. They also booted Weir for what reason? Men like her boobs less then Carters? She was too civilian? It feels like the people in charge are lost and scrambling in fear of cancellation. In reality these changes are going to be the undoing of Atlantis.

And they seem to have missed the memo where majority of the SG-1 fans know of the show's existence, and either watch or don't. This isn't brain surgery. *sigh*

"Can't figure out what to do with Weir, we've screwed her character up, rather than fixing it let's just parachute a known quantity in."

Great minds. I said the same thing pretty much, with "The only reason the change had to be made was because they didn't want to actually have to delve into what makes Weir tick when they had the option of using a known quantity."

i honestly hadn't considered Carter just sitting there like Hammond, so in essence, that's a waste (but an easily shot role). No, not impressed, nor would I be impressed if they decided Carter needed to go out with Shep's team - I mean, let's BOTH of our brilliant scientists out on the same dangerous mission. Would be very, very stupid.

Yeah, they seemed to have missed that the ones who want to watch already do...but then again, we're not important, right? Because it seems that most of us aren't teenage boys after all...huh, who knew?

Yeah, I like to pick out the crucial points of an article. The rest was how wonderful the changes were going to be....

Wish they could have left SGA as its own show...

I bet they skipped Common Sense 101. Probably snuck into How To Reuse A Plot 101 instead.

You know, it's all my parents fault for not being a boy. Nooo, my dad had to let the wrong little guy out the gate. As a boy, maybe I'd salivate and they'd
listen to me.

I dare say virtually all SG1 fans are aware of SGA if they watch SG1 on Skiffy. I mean, hello, yes, commercials for the upcoming show. Fans have made up their mind after three years. They'll watch or they won't, but TPTB are calculating that if they dump an SG1 character on the show, the fans will watch for that character, so I suspect Carter will appear after certain time periods so they can get their Neilsen rating numbers.

I think they were talking about the Asurans, not the Athosians. The Athosians are still good guys, but they're just... gone.

Yes, and the fact both share the Stargate intro, so it's not difficult to figure out they're related. People, from what I can tell, watch each for different reasons. What they're *not* banking on (and boy, do they fail at their jobs for it) is that pissing off people in a very small niched community is a very bad idea.

Supernatural/Sci-fi shows aren't market dominators. It's not like ER, Grey's, House, or Bones (What is this? Doctor explosions lately?), where they have an easy to find market. Specific niches have to work at keeping their viewers, not pissing them off weekly. A wise person would keep the fans they have, get better scripts, and expand that way. Intentionally causing a ruckus won't work out well in the end. With only being on one channel here (Skiffy), new episodes are vital to keeping it afloat. However tv's not the only way to see a show nowadays. In any shape or form. People can view without handing over those ever so important Neilsen ratings.

Ah, okay. Just checking, since I went, "Wait, what?" It was hard to read it at some parts, so I might have seen it wrong. Well, it's not like the Athosians were useful, or helped. Oh, wait.

Yeah, well, it's not like we've seen the Athosians. Out of sight, out of mind, really.

Reread it and it said Athosians. I'm going, "Er...y'all should fact check. It's what all the cool kids do."

God, I can only hope that Shep's team gets stranded offworld for most of the season just to avoid Atlantis.

*laughing* I so understand. This really sucks. You know, I enjoyed Carter in Seasons 1-3, but I was so ready for her to be gone by the end of Season 8. I was basically gritting my teeth and watching around her for Seasons 9-10, and now I have to do the same with Atlantis. I agree with the person who posted that she's the "Maryest Mary Sue" of all. I just can't imagine how the golden girl of the MW is going to fit into the Pegasus group. Being Shep's boss, Rodney's boss... *sigh* This is depressing.

We can probably kiss goodbye any meaningful screen time for Zelenka's character, too. No need for Rodney to have a science team foil when Carter is around, right? Who cares if Zelenka knows the systems, the people, and Rodney? To quote Cooper, "I think [Carter] is wonderful, and certainly Amanda is the right person to bring into any situation."

Noooo!!!!!!! How can they do that? its bad enough bringing her in, but this is ridiculus. Weir might not have been my favourite, but damnit she was part of the family, and it was a good family! they had good dynamic and everything, this totally sucks, its like they are trying to drive the show in to teh ground, the bastards.

OMG! Does that mean that Atlantis is going to the militery?

From: [identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com
It does appear they might militarize Atlantis if Carter is in charge, as well, she's USAF.

I thought so, *is disgusted* I keep thinking that its only a matter of time before she just takes over Rodneys Job as well coz shes obv smarter, and prettier and better with people than him so that instantly makes her the best thing ever *sarcastic*

From: [identity profile] wraithfodder.livejournal.com
I can't see her taking over ROdney's job as he's got three years in Atlantis and she's got, what? nothing, when she arrives. She's basically a tourist and he's a local. Plus in Atlantis, Rodney's science is pretty fast and furious while Carter's is slow and methodical.

I know, we like Rodney better coz he is better, but if they think she's better than Weir at running things, and if John isnt going to be the Militery head any more, it'll sound like the logical step to them, if she managed to survive all the sg-1 bad guys whats a little wraith-hybrid-monster-thing?
