I found this out with Season 9 of Stargate SG-1 and boy was I pissed. Amanda commented on Unending--that's it for the actors! For SG-1 that's almost the only reason I bothered to buy the DVDs. Now that the show is already canceled, I may not waste my money buying Season 10.
I was afraid that was going to happen with SGA and here it is. I suppose it has now been written into the actors' contracts that they will get PAID for doing commentaries. And God knows, MGM and Bridge aren't going to pay for that. Grrrrr. God, David and Joe and Martin and Martin were SO good on the Season 2 commentaries!
The two Martins are decent commentators, but I listened to a couple of the other ones on SG-1 and...meh. I don't need to hear endlessley about special effects, set design, and camera angles, thank you. MGM better realize WHY the Stargate DVDs are best-sellers, and it ain't all for the production values.
I suppose I ought to put this in a letter and send it off to someone who has some power, right? Or maybe I'll just comment on Gateworld, since that seems to get a lot of attention.
