Dust bunnies - yes, I killed a horde of them. A slew of 'em. One should always move boxes and dust, er, suck up with vacuum, the plethora of evil little bunnies. Of course, if the cat did his job, he'd squeeze through and clean it for us, but nooooo... he has to sit under the gooseneck lamp with the *gasp* un-PC heat-spewing lightbulb. Hmm, I should stock up on those as the newer efficient bulbs don't toss off heat and the little guy needs the heat. Not a ton of fur.

Books: Have accumulated a whole bunch of books but didn't get around to reading them, but will set 'em up in a tower by the bed and start reading....
Well, first book I'm going to read is READING CSI (edited by Michael Allen) as I have a review copy which I said I'd review, so I'm gonna do it!
Then, in no particular order... and virtually all are non-fiction, as I read so much fanfic :)
Plague Year (scifi novel by Jeff Carlson)
Witch: The True Story of Las Vegas' Most Notorious Serial Killer (which I got cuz Dr. T (a coroner I know) was involved in the case)
Salt: A World History
The Encyclopedia of Outdoor Survival Based on the Training and Techniques of the SAS (well, I've been putzing through it on and off the last year; great for fanfic writing reference)
Bitten: True Medical Stories of Bites and Stings (this might the second book I read as it looks fascinating)
Kitchen Table Wisdom: Stories That Heal
The Tipping Point
Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science (heh, Rodney McKay should read it)
Mosquito: The Story of Man's Deadliest Foe
The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl
Windswept: The Story of Wind and Weather
In the Hot Zone: One Man, One Year, Twenty Wars (Kevin Sites)
The Best American Science and Nature Writing - 2007
Ice: The Nature, The History, and the Uses of an Astonishing Substance
Dirt, the Erosion of Civilization
Hmm, anybody know of any good books on the history of fire?? To complete my 'elemental library' ;)
Then the books found at library book sale and I went, oh, Carmen A (Selmac) mentioned one of these and at this ridiculous buck a book prices, i'll grab 'em all and sort 'em out:
The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle)
A New Earth (Eckhart Tolle)
The Purpose Driven Life (Warren)
And that shoudl be enough but Borders and Barnes & Nobles get some great deals on great books. Oh yeah, picked up a sorta picture book called 501 Must-Visit Natural Wonders (in the bargain section) and thought, hmm, have I been to any of them? Yes, I visited the Wookey Hole cave in England! Sure I've seen some others but was cool to mention that cave mentioned as no one has ever heard of it.

It's cold, gray and rainy outside. It was sleeting earlier but then turned to cold rain (thankfully not freezing rain) and iti's the perfect day to stay inside and play on the PC and watch DVDs, so I got out EMERGENCY! (with Randolph Mantooth) and went, I'll watch the 'whump' episodes with Johnny getting the virus, snake bit, and hit by the car, only to realize, eegads, only three seasons are out. Johnny didn't get nailed by the car until the fifth season. Noooo!!!! So I won't see that until '09 as the next Emergency! DVD is due out at the end of this month.
And in watching several episodes, this 70s series points out just how much better the writing was (at least with some shows) back then. Coherent plots, good acting, and if Johnny got bit by a snake, it was okay for his fellow firefighters to worry over him. Geez, I watch the STargates and what? a guy can be concerned for his fellow friend (albeit also male) without someone (the writers??) going 'oh god, we can't have them getting too worried or else people might talk). Ack....

My decked out Christmas Dalek is gonna stay there for a w hile, as it's nice and festive and I think you can leave up Xmas lights till July ;) but realistically, the next holiday is.... oh, Valentine's day.... Hmmm.....

Computers and emails and fandom.... I've had an interesting time today and yesterday just going through all the *cough* massive amounts of bookmarks I've acquired. A large amount of SG1 book marks were dead, so they went. I was sorry to see certain medical ones no longer valid, like the bullet wound treatment site (again, great for fanfic writing), but when I clicked on links going, hmm, wonder what that is, and it wasn't there, it wasn't so bad as if I couldn't remember it.... I was glad to see the two Peeps (as in marshmallow peeps) experiment sites still exist :):)
Am now removing tons of email I let pile up. A lot I erase, but I also save a lot as it just get burned to a DVD in the bizarre event I want to check back on something. I keep the good, the bad (sigh, folks die) and even the ugly (yes, don't flame me unless you want to enter the DVD hall of shame ;) )
I did find a LOT of unread Stargate Atlantis fiction. Saved the story as an email, or as a link to fanfic.net or a livejournal and now will burn those to DVD and just go through 'em and see what I was missing. I don't think they're so old that Ford was still on the show! ;)
Vista (PC) has some nice stuff to it, but is infuriating in other aspects. I love Windows XP. Easy, less doodads and such, although a DVD someone had burned for me of Joe Flanigan's THOUGHTCRIMES, which did not work in the DVD player (waaaah!) I found much to my delight, did work in the PC! Yes! Alas, a DVD a friend burned of the classic ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS didn't work, but she's making another copy.
I also zapped a bunch of stuff at Gateworld. realized I had all these private messages, all answered, etc., and one or two from absolute putzes (why I left those there, I'm not sure, as I do remember their monikers/names) so erased it all. New year, start fresh!
A friend and I were talking about fandom and how long it lasts. While some fans just hang around for one fandom and then vanish, some stay in it for the long haul, and friends I made back in the 70s are still friends today because we have common values outside of fandom. They make fandom worth having played in for this long. And it's always fun when a friend who hasn't shared the same fannish interest for decades suddenly lands in your current fandom :) And we for some reason detest the other show a friend likes, we respect that and say "enjoy! (but don't force me to sit down and watch a marathon of your favorite show or elsewise I must strangle you") ;)
The TV writer's strike is still going strong but with allt he VHS tapes I've got, DVDs, well, I think I'm set, although I'd hate to see Stargate Atlantis season 5 get delayed if the strike drags on, or worse, the actor's guild joins in.
And that's about it.
Oh, and if you made a comment on my Live Journal in the comments pages. I honestly don't know if I asnwered back on all of them. Tried to, but if I missed, it's nothing personal. Just too many emails! Will endeavor to get a bettler handle on it this year :)

I usually stick with Fantasy stories but they frustrate me because they seem to run in series and I usually can't find the entire series in one shot. GRR. I won't read any of a series until I have the full collection ready to go. I need to get some bookshelves. It is entirely unmotivating to have to go through a box of books to find one I want. As for a book on fires, I hear there are some good books on the Baltimore Fire or the Chicago Fire.
I loved Emergency!! I didn't know it was out on DVD. Gotta go look on Netflix now! Thanxbye!
