I'll stick the description of Zombie Bambi's nocturnal movements below the cut, in case anybody's eating breakfast when they read this...

Well, it's rather creepy to think that while I was sacked out on the couch, exhausted, watching ARK OF TRUTH (not a bad movie), that wild coyotes were outside gnawing and dragging the carcass of the deceased deer all over the front yard. Disturbingly, it's getting closer to the front door. Eeeuuu.

Anyway, armed with two flashlights when I took the dog out for his nightly constitution (one flashlight just in case I had to fend off anything), I found that the deer, although dead and now about 1/4 of its former 100 or so pounds, had moved fifty feet across the lawn. It has also, for those who are offended by wide open red ribcages, now flipped over so that the good side (hair/fur) is showing. One front leg has been detached but is still next to the body, and wow, I guess nobody eats heads, and the eyes, despite vulture activity earlier in the day, remain untouched. Also, around 6:30pm when I got home, I spied what I think was a red-tailed hawk just lurking in a tree, but he eventually flew off. Also saw what I think was two buzzards (er, not vultures, we have buzzards) in the tree, but there were people walking dogs up and down the street, unaware of the carnage on our lawn.

I'm hoping tomorrow the deer will have moved into the field area and then, the bugs can get it. but it wouldn't surprise me if Zombie Bambi moves more tonight, as it did last night.

You should make a (really gross) time lapse video of ZB's progress.

Uh, I must admit, yes, I do go out every morning and make a short video with the little digital camera. It's being documented.

Yeah...where are the photos? Tons of photos of buff SGA actors, but no gruesome carnage shots from your own yard? ;-)

I'm waiting till it's gone, which, judging by this morning's remains, may be tomorrow!

It moved another 50 feet! It's getting closer and closer to the field area where I could just sorta cover it up. The coyotes and other carrion eaters really did a job on its last night. I was wondering, geez, does nobody eat the head? Well, it's down to skull.

If I put up pictures, there will be LOTS of warnings.

Am I the only one who's just jealous that you live somewhere with coyotes, hawks and buzzards?

Well we do have buzzards over here but they don't land in my garden. The biggest bird I get in my garden is a wood pigeon. :(

Well, don't mind buzzards. They clean up the poor critters squashed by the stupid SUV drivers. Coyotes, alas, are eating pets too :( Buzzards are cool, though.

Ewww! Yes, I know it's all part of nature (and seen enough episodes of CSI to know people study thing like this). I did have to laugh at your header - sounded like Scifi's new Saturday night movie (or really bad porn)!

Wow....American wildlife really is gross. So is American Wildundead.

Ah, this happens everywhere. It's like a little piece of the African veldt in my own backyard, and it would be truly hideous if this weren't winter... keep thinking how colorful (and eeeuuu) it would be if we'd had snow.

Wow, just when I was craving my next Dexter fix and having a hard time waiting for season 3. . .I stumble across ZB. It's sort of like an episode of the Dark Defender, acted out by animals. ;) LOL

Yeah, it's like CSI or any serial killer type thing, only thankfully, no bugs. In the summer we would have spent hours digging a grave for it. It's 6:00 a.m. and dark outside but there are still some remains left but not a lot...

I have more dead animal stories from my farm days. Cats and car engines.....
I don't know who should be more worried about the photos. You for taking them or me for wanting to look. We're both sick :D

I look at it as documenting nature's process as I know I'll forget it down the road. Plus I guess it's good to know in case this ever happens again... eeeuu, i've heard about poor kitties and car engines. Not pretty!
