Well, that's how the announcer on the BBC news pronounced it last night. We call it meth-ane here in the States.

Anyway, scientists are up in Siberia (you know, where people are always threatened to be sent in cold war movies). Apparently Siberia's permafrost, well, it' ain't. It's melting. Yup, and you've got a ton of lakes there literally bubbling away - spewing 40,000 year-old methane into the air, which will accelerate global warming.

no, no, no. Remember, that's just a myth. Like all the other myth-ing pieces of science these days... I am so disappointed in Michael Crichton for buying into the myth.

It was his last book, I think - I bought it as an e-book. I think it was called State of Fear or something like that. Anyway, it's predicated on the idea that global warming is a myth made up to frighten us into changing our way of life. Or something like that. It's very -- muddled.
