2-Hour TV-Movie Greenlit For 2009 As Stargate Franchise Lives On In Features

Space drama Stargate Atlantis will conclude its run on Sci Fi Channel after the current, fifth season ends next January -- but the network has greenlit a two-hour Atlantis movie to run after that and says the show will live on as a network franchise.

After airing on Sci Fi sometime next year, the untitled Atlantis movie will be sold as a home-video title by producer MGM, Sci Fi told Multichannel News on Wednesday.

MGM this year released two financially successful straight-to-DVD movies made after progenitor series Stargate SG-1 ended a 10-year run of first-run cable episodes on Sci Fi. MGM and the show producers are scheduled to make more in DVDs in future. A movie franchise is also envisioned for Stargate Atlantis.

I thought for sure we'd get ONE MORE SEASON. I'm pissed if they're cancelling to do another Stargate season. I mean, if ratings were down or the cast were getting itchy, fine, but ratings have been good, the cast seemed to be happy with the direction, WTF?

I hope Joe lands a good network drama but still makes himself available for the movies. I guess 2 hours is better than none at all. Sigh.

Frankly, ever since we first heard about SGU, I expected that would be the case. And I don't think I'll be watching SGU, either. I'm not about to trust them again after the Beckett and Weir fiascos.

I had my brownie, it's not enough. Atlantis was my first real fandom show, so it holds a special place.

Slowly but surely, scifi is saying FU to its female viewers in my opinion. But yeah, they only gave sg1 five years, I didn't expect more for atlantis. And I did like the last two years of sg1, Vala was the best. Still, at least we found out now, instead of come January right?

Well, I won't be watching anything more on Sci-fi. I can't believe they keep scrapping great shows (Stargate, Farscape and now Stargate Atlantis all shows that were doing well) to put on cheap crap (flush Gordon, Pain Killer Jane anyone?) that nobody wants to watch. They have been going down hill for a long time now. What can I expect from the bottom of the barrel network of NBC? And they can stuff Stargate Universe, didn’t even like anyone in the cast on that thing!
