Ah, some good news at last
Sep. 25th, 2008 06:50 pmI dare say, I think the evil incarnation of Knight RIder is toast...
Variety today reviewed KNIGHT RIDER. The review, I feel, is probably the best thing about the series! Read it and laugh J
The "Knight Rider" revival movie set the bar low in terms of expectations, and damned if the series premiere still doesn't go skidding under it. Frankly, this convoluted hour sent me scurrying to NBC's website looking for clarification about the plot, but -- whew, what a relief -- there really isn't much of one. As constituted the program does have a decidedly retro flair, existing largely to push Ford cars (which could use the push), while stripping its characters down to underwear and skin-tight tops at every turn. As strategies go, this one could use a lube job.
Those with time to kill or a masochistic tendency can read the full review at http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117938461.html?categoryid=31&cs=1
Okay, it's not nice to chortle over the demise of a TV show, but, really, what were they thinking? it's nothing like the original show. Why not just write something original? Oh wait, this is Hollywood. Originality doesn't really exist out there :(

Date: 2008-09-26 04:57 am (UTC)I caught it last night, but wondered if I'd missed something because it didn't make sense and they didn't give much of a plot to follow. The Special Effects were okay, but a truck? Seriously. After about half and hour I gave up. I couldn't get pass the bland voice of the car or the bland acting.

Date: 2008-09-26 04:22 pm (UTC)The first ep was a bit odd, I followed the plot (such as it was) but I think they were putting too much emphasis on Mike's mysterious past to pay attention to a decent plot.
Didn't like the transformation in the 1st ep, it was much more subtle in the pilot and they should have left it like that...the truck transformation was well OTT.
Overall, not brilliant, but have seen worse. I might give the next ep a go, but would not be cut up if it gets cancelled. There are far, far better shows out there.
I did think the bit where they went inside KITT (the turbo bit) was kinda cool in a House sort of way, but less icky than House (why I watch a medical drama when I keep having to look away must be down to the great characters - though I'm only just on S2 of House, so please no spoilers)!! And I do like car chases!
I didn't notice all the Ford branding, but then I don't know much about cars and what they look like etc! Unfortunately, produce placement is the way TV is going due to people not watching ads so much (ie taping it to watch later, downloading or watching online, etc). But I agree that if every or vitually every car, truck etc seen is Ford, that's OTT. Oh well.
So, not as good as the original, not very good, kinda cool car chases and visuals but could do without the UST (but then, I don't like UST even in good shows like Bones) and the lack of a decent plot.
