Hmm, yanked this off Mallozzi's blog tonight (12/15/2008) ... "As some of you may have heard, the wonderfully talented Robert Carlyle has signed on to join the crew of the Destiny in the upcoming Stargate: Universe series. The award-winning actor - Begbie from Trainspotting to some, Hamish Macbeth to others - will be playing the role of Dr. David Rush, the ship’s brilliant Machiavellian scientist. I see a lot of myself in Rush and, next to yours truly of course, I can’t imagine anyone better for the part. Contrary to initial reports, the Rush character is not the leader of the unplanned expedition. That honor falls to Colonel Everett Young. For now. But things could have a way of changing on board a ship manned by a disparate group with very different agendas…

hmm, hmmm, uh....

Somehow a character which is a lot of Joe Mallozzi DOES NOT inspire me to watch..

What happened to "we're skewing younger, you as an audience are too old for us." As much as I like Robert Carlyle, he's older than the SGA cast as a whole. WTF?

Oh dear god...

I was going to start a betting pool on what episode Carlyle's character buys the farm.

Now I have my money on Col. Young buying the farm inside the first three episodes...

You mean the scientist on the ship is going to have a difficult personality? Next thing we'll know is that Colonel Young will be a rebel but will sacrifice everything for his team... :)

The looks on Rodney and Daniel's faces in your icon sum up my reaction pretty well.

I didn't know Mallozzi was "a brilliant Machiavellian scientist"!

I feel sorry for whoever is cast as Everett Young. He'll be the Flanigan to Carlyle's Hewlett...if his character lives long enough, that is.

Good thing they're going for the younger audience...you know, the ones who have never heard of Carlyle or seen The Full Monty.

I am now imagining Dr. Rush running around the ship dressed in a purple pinstripe three piece suit. Gah!

If you're starting a pool, can I take episode 10, assuming they have a mid-season hiatus?

And the alien will be a person of colour, cos aliens in the SC-verse are always non-white...

regrettably, that is the way they appear to cast scifi shows. I mean, look at SG1 (Teal'c), Andromeda (Tyr), etc. etc.

well, they are, with the bulk of the cast. need to have one 'old geezer' around. ;) (said with all due respect). He's 47, I think, and yes, older than anybody on SGA, but younger than RDA.
