They've released casting news on Stargate Universe. I must admit, um, no offense, but not terribly excited...
I'll stick it all under the cut as it'll be easier...
First, GW reported... Actor Brian J. Smith has been cast as a series regular in Stargate Universe, GateWorld has learned exclusively. Smith will play the role of Lt. Matthew Scott (formerly Jared Nash).
The studio and network describe Scott as “a junior member of the Stargate team. Green and rough around the edges, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he’s ready for the responsibility and must learn to command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities aboard the ship
no source given for exclusive news yet.
------------ I swear, Colonel Young is gonna die. Does this not sound like a younger Sheppard? Thrust into the role of leader, etc. etc.??
Brian J. Smith's IMDB page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1668284/ - has only three credits on his resume. He's 27 years old.

BRIAN J. SMITH
Brian J. Smith, now entering his second year of training at the Juilliard School of Drama, makes his film debut as ‘Trey’ in Hate Crime. Born and raised in Dallas, TX, his stage experience has been extensive. In 2000, he was nominated for a Dallas Theatre League Award for Best Supporting Actor, while still a senior in high school. He studied for two years at Stephen’s Women’s College where he appeared in just under a dozen shows, including ‘Algernon’ in The Importance of Being Earnest and ‘Ludie’ in The Trip to Bountiful. He came back to Texas in 2002 where he appeared as ‘Alex’ in Quad C Theatre’s production of A Clockwork Orange, which earned him rave reviews, including “Best Performance by an Actor in 2002” from the Dallas Observer. “D” Magazine named him as “One of the 64 People in Dallas to Watch”, the only actor to receive that honor. He will spend the next year not only in the training studio, but also performing in hospitals and prisons around New York City as part of the Juilliard Community Service Fellowship.

Exclusive: 'Stargate' snags Marc's 'Ugly Betty" BF
Jan 15, 2009, 08:50 PM | by Michael AusiellO
This certainly puts the kibosh on a possible Marc-Cliff reunion on Ugly Betty: Cliff's portrayer, David Blue, is relocating to another freakin' universe.
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Blue has been tapped to join the cast of Sci Fi Channel's Stargate Universe, the franchise's third (and purportedly edgiest) live-action series.
Blue, who joins previously announced headliner Robert Carlyle, plays Eli Wallace, a total slacker who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to -- mathematics, computers, video games. A lack confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of
humor.
His IMDB entry is at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2437382/

Alas, Eli sounds like a carbon copy of Rodney McKay... except for the video games, unless you count "The Game."

SGU casting news

Yeah, that was like 7 years ago. According to David's Myspace page, he's 24. Omigod, he's just a baby! He's going to be a baby McKay, but as a slacker instead of McKay's intensity. What a difference.
One of his Myspace friends is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog.
I don't know if I can fan!crush on someone so young. According to the 2nd video interview, he's still paying off student loans!
His official website is just a webpage and is under construction. None of the links work. Ha, slacker!
I was hoping for a geek!girl. It could have happened, despite the published casting call for a guy. TPTB changed the ethicity of the head Atlantis scientist in order to hire David Hewlett.
Re: SGU casting news
Date: 2009-01-16 02:39 pm (UTC)While I adore McKay, it doesn't still niggle at me they changed from a black Canadian to a white one to get him there. Salt in the wound was changing the black Ford in for the "wild warrior" stereotype with Ronon.
