Have read a couple very brief mentions that the Stargate Atlantis movie has been 'temporarily shelved' due to the finanial climate. Apparently Kavan Smith told fans this at the Pegasus 4 convention. Anybody have any more details? Thanks!!

OMFG--they *cannot* try to throw us this moldy carrot when they cancel SGA and then take it away. (Although I understand not having money) but holy crap, this is a pile of sh*t. The possibility of a movie was what was keeping me going with my terrible Joe withdrawal. This sux!

I know they pushed it back to 2010, but I feared they would put it on hold and probably never get back to it. That's why I was hoping the Pegasus 4 reports would be coming out because...well, the actors are pretty good at laying it out when the producers aren't.

Bastards. Well, I guess that explains why none of the actors had been approached for a movie deal up until recently...

How convenient to have a bad economy to blame this on, while they ramp up the budget and marketing for SGU.

The delay also gives the actors more time to secure other roles (hopefully for them) which will be more likely to make them unavailable to commit. And we know that a movie without any one of the four main characters just will not fly.

We shouldn't be surprised. SGA truly is the red-headed step child I guess.

Atlantis on hold?

From: [identity profile] watcher652.livejournal.com
Well, crap. But Mallozzi just said the other day:

"Since we wouldn’t start shooting the Atlantis movie until the summer, as opposed to Universe which begins production in February, the series is more of a priority at this point."

See the end of his Jan 24th post.

What's David doing now?

Maybe David is L.A. auditioning? I kinda thought that when he twittered that he drove to L.A. with Mars. You usually don't drive a dog from Washington State to L.A. for a short trip.

The news does not surprise me at all! It's a shame really -- but, I was thinking about David being in LA, maybe they are meeting about the movie?

But they have the money for the SG1 movie?!

I was speaking to David Nykoll last weekend, as he was over for a convention in Ireland, and whole he didn't say so directly it was hinted strongly that the movie/s were going to be delayed for a while.

I'm shocked, I tell! Totally shocked!

OK, not all that shocked. *g*

Considering none of the actors had been contacted yet, I figured the movie was either delayed or would never see the light of day. TPTB are too busy playing with the new baby.

Not at all surprised. Not even a little bit, actually.

Sooooo........all the money and attention goes to SGU, huh? Great. The mean part of me really does not want the show to do well, but the angel on the other shoulder smacks me back into playing nice.

I didn't understand him this way. Imho he said, that he isn't sure whether there will be an Atlantis movie at all, due to the financial crisis and the crisis in the movie industry because Stargate isn't immune to that.

But I'm not a native speaker, so I might got that wrong.

I got the impression, that he is sure, that they really want to make the movie in the summer, but that there might be problems with the financing, and not because of SGU but because everybody in that industry has this problems.

I never expected a movie in the first place, hence my constant rage lol its all bullshit. I stopped reading Joe's blog because it pissed me off every time he spoke about SGU, and I love that blog. I just do not want to read about SGU anymore, canceling SGA was a huge mistake.

Gee, why am I not surprised? As if the fans don't feel cheated enough already...

You know, if they really didn't like SGA (heh, almost wrote SGGay) so much, why did they take it over?

Date: 2009-01-26 04:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mercury973.livejournal.com
Yeah, Kavan said it, but really didn't go into details and I didn't want to go to the mic and ask for clarification. I'm not suprised, tho.

That's not surprising at all. Maybe when SG:90210 fails miserably because they alienated their fanbase, and all the SGA actors have found new jobs *crosses fingers* they'll regret that decision.

All I'm hearing is the same rumors. I notice there's no talk of putting the SG-1 movie on hold however. *sarcasm*

From: [identity profile] tavabean.livejournal.com
Well, I'm not interested in the SG1 movies, and I don't think I'll be watching SGU.
Guess my Stargate days are over. *is sad*

I'm not surprised about this in the slightest

I knew we weren't going to get to movie.

And it's a load of bull that they can't afford to make it...They're using the recession as an excuse.

If rumours of the SGA movie being shelved for the time being turn out to be fact, then I think it'd be a rational and reasonable financial decision on the part of TPTB if the reasoning is the present economic crisis.

They stand to gain more (financially) from a brand new series that stands to run for 2 seasons or more, than they stand to gain from producing a one-off tv-movie for a canceled series.

There's probably no word on SG-1 because its production is so far off as to no be worth talking about yet.

From: [identity profile] dovil.livejournal.com
I didn't actually think there would be a movie - if you don't contact the actors to lock them in to contracts you either consider them unemployable, you're disorganised, or there was never much of a push in the first place.

From: [identity profile] lahela-sga.livejournal.com
I'm not surprised either, seeing as they aren't even writing the thing yet. According to Joe M, they've got an outline, but the SGU ep is more urgent. Do these (supposedly professional) people not understand the difference between a 42 minute script for a TV episode that lots of people would watch regardless of quality because that's just what they do on Friday nights, and a 100-something minute script for a movie that people will be expected to buy on DVD? Financial crisis my arse.

Its easy to blame the financial crisis for everything, isn't it?

"Hey, I just broke a nail" "Yeah, that happens these days..."

Karma will say : Hey, I can't watch SGU, the financial crisis made me cancel my subscription to Sci-fi :p

::tears:: Since the last episode not a day has gone by that I have'nt thought about SGA and what will come of the movie!!

Date: 2009-01-26 09:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lysambre.livejournal.com
Colour me surprise !!!! This is such an unexpected shock ! After all the respect they've shown us, I honestly never would have thought they could do this [/sarcasm].

It's been obvious for months, actually it's been obvious since the crappy announcement of the cancellation.
Let them keep rolling us, the cast and part of the crew in the dust, Karma's a bitch and will bite them on their collective asses when they least expect it.

Until then, I'll keep watching my DVD from when SGA was still the best show on TV ;).

Until we hear the truth from JM or TPTB it is just a rumor. And Kavan has a supporting role in the series and may not have all the facts.

From: [identity profile] timespirt.livejournal.com
Yeah, and pigs will be winged commercial airlines at local airports when JM or TPTB look up in the dictionary what the word truth really means, instead of the definition of the word Bullshit!
