A couple interesting links.

First, just looking at this blog will probably add ten pounds. Whoa, I cannot believe the vending machines. I'd say "surely they can't exist?!" but I'm sure they do. The blog is "Why You're Fat." ;)

Next, video of the now famous Koala named Sam, who was found in a burned out forest in Australia. There's an article here and if you just Google 'sam the koala', well, you'll find a ton. Sam, a female koala by the way, is now at an animal center with Bob, another koala. He also got singed in the fires.

Here's a photo snerched off the Reuters site of Sam and Bob:

There is an article on Sam and the firefighter being reunited at The Herald Sun.

The Australian Red Cross is soliciting help here. Nearly 200 people have died; over one million animals are estimated to have perished in the bushfires. AnimalAid is soliciting help and more for wildlife and pets.

um...that blog is rather disgusting. You're arteries are sure to clog just looking at the pictures. What some people will eat...sheesh. ;)

I saw the video of Sam earlier in the day and I got all sniffly. Poor lil' critter.

Quite honestly, one or two of those food 'creations' looked like an alien coughed up in that really awful "Aliens vs. Predator" movie I foolishly watched last night, cuz I was too tired to get off the couch. the vending machine pictures were shockers - gah - no wonder people are fat! ;) I must admit, I have eaten Welsh Rarebit, but rarely :)

Yeah, the Sam video is...sniffly. Just read a bunch of articles at the Australian Herald newspaper and it's just depressing beyond words.

OY! Went through all the photos and they are mildly disturbing. Most of that looks like carny food. While I can't say I've ever had anything that is on the list, I have had a few that are similar. Snicker's pie for one. Although the one I tasted was actually a pudding type pie with Snicker bits. Not so bad I guess.

What I did find amusing was that most people will eat just about anything that comes on a stick!

Thanks for posting about the bushfires in Victoria mate, what is little known and just as sad is massive floods at the top end of Australia (Queensland, millions of Stargate fans live here) and the birth of a couple of devastating hazards, the crocodile: http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25041593-3102,00.html and Dengue Fever: http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25028216-3102,00.html again thanks......gasbo

You're welcome. I swear, all we see on the news is the blasted financial mess the bankers made here.

I heard about the flooding in Queensland - people running over crocodiles on roads. Too bad all that water can find its way over to Victoria. I hadn't realized Dengue Fever was a risk. Bad news!

We also get the financial stuff, it's a deadset pain in the Mitka

I thought I would keep your good self and readers apprised on the sheer size of the floods in Queensland, water is covering 60% of the state, to context that for folks who know how big Texas is, the water covers an area 1.5 times the size of the Lone Star State

You've probably heard that a male person, aged 39 years has been charged with lighting one of the fires, his identity has been suppressed, more at >> http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25047001-952,00.html thanks - gasbo

That IS a huge area. I'll have to check the news at lunch. No, hadn't heard of the arrest. Have to check that out too.

I think I gained 20 pounds just looking at those pics on the blog.

Awww those Koala's are so cute! My heart melted at the photo of the Koala drinking water from the bottle. I was watching TMZ last night and they made fun of Sam for drinking bottled water...shame on them for not getting the story right before opening their big mouths. I shouldn't be surprised though.

TMZ got ripped apart by viewers for their lack of sensitivity (not that they ever had any to begin with). Yeah, the footage of Sam and the firefighter was amazing. I read another article in which some moron stole a firefighters uniform while he took a break and got something to eat. Sigh.

Ooo, i saw this earlier - soooooo cute!! That firefighter deserves a medal, he was so caring. There was something of the late great Steve Irwin about him.
I'm glad Sam and Bob have found each other.

And thanks for the links to the aid sites! :)

Sam is cute isn't she. The picture being sold will raise funds for the Country Fire Authority volunteer firies. They even get made redundant whilst fighting bushfires, although to be honest the whole section was outsourced. Bad timeing or what?).
And I bought the picture because the boys and girls of the CFA need support as well.

Redundant? As in laid off? Ack, outsourcing. Never a good thing.
