Comic-Con: Robert Carlyle on why he's perfect for Stargate Universe EXCERPT: He revealed: "Last year I came to LA. The film industry in the UK is struggling, so I was looking for something different. When this came up it was, to use an American phrase, completely out of left field."I didn't know much Stargate and my first reaction was 'why would they want me to do this?'
But it's very much a character-driven piece, and when I met Brad and Robert they told me they were looking for someone who could make dislikeable things quite likeable. When they said that I thought, 'yup, I'm your man for that'."With some of the diehard fans worried that the show would be grittier and darker than the previous incarnations, creators Wright and Cooper were keen to reassure that it was in the same friendly, accessible style, although with a more hand-held shooting style similar to Battlestar Galactica

‘Stargate,’ ‘Prisoner’ bode well for fall TV

According to Wright, “Stargate Universe” will also be accessible to the newbie viewers. Although with “SG-1” and “Atlantis” repeats in near-constant rotation on SyFy, he's not sure how anyone can be a newbie at this point.

“It's on TV all day now!” co-creator Wright bellowed playfully at the sheepish few in the ballroom who admitted to having never seen the show before.

The new “Stargate Universe” premieres on SyFy in October, and if you don't like it, don't blame Blue. The admitted “Stargate” geek — who played Marc's huggable boyfriend Cliff on “Ugly Betty” — is the show's official “gate” keeper. And it's a job he takes quite seriously.

“For me, it's a matter of pride to be part of (the show), but there is an immense responsibility in every scene to get it right for you.”

While SyFy is hoping “Stargate Universe” will keep a storied franchise alive and soaring, AMC is betting that its remake of “The Prisoner” will help solidify its newly minted reputation as the purveyor of such quality cable fare as “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.”

Boy have you been a busy bee! Thanks for all the hard work. When you get a chance, please update your post in the SGU Destiny community to include of these compilations. That would be greatly appreciated (it's under the tag "con reports").

oops, forgot to tag the stuff on SGu_Destiny. Yeah, I was very curious as to what went on. I'll see if there's anything more to compile; checked today and found one or two articles but most Comic Con is on Iron Man and movies.

I don't like crowds either, but did basically survive the NY Comic Con (20 or 50,000 fans?- can't recall - LOTS). My feet are still sorta recovering. Need new sneakers! I'd love to do Comic Con with a hefty wad of cash and a minion or two to drag around all the junk I buy ;)
