Stargate: Atlantis left open-ended?

Rachel Luttrell has said she can't confirm rumours of a big screen version of Stargate: Atlantis.

The hit US show has just reached its finale, but Rachel said she had a feeling that there was more from the format to come, although stories of a movie version were "still rumours".

The actress, who has spent the past five years playing Teyla Emmagan in the sci-fi series said: "It's left with like a big kind of question mark and a dot, dot, dot and a kind of a sigh."

She continued: "In a way that's kind of a good thing because it lends itself to maybe a little bit more or if not at least you know the imagination of the fans to decipher where they think the characters may end up going."

Taking in London about a prospective big screen version of the show she said: "I really wish that I could solidify something but even for us we don't know, it's still in the rumour mill," she said.

Adding: "I am sure that there is somebody who knows, but I don't know it's not me, it's not me. The last I heard was that we were going to be shooting in November, but we'll see, once again big rumour, big rumour."

And I have the awful feeling that TPTB is pulling our collective leg. They have a new show. They have the SG-1 movie green-lit. Why would they want to film an SGA one? Me cynical? No way *snorts*

I'm pretty certain that's true. We pay more attention than they do, because they're too busy looking for new jobs to be worried about jobs that will probably never come to be.

TPTB are getting about a million more per episode to make SGU than they did for the previous shows, so I figure they'll invest all their efforts there. If it tanks (doubtful, since someone's always willing to tune in for the start of a new series), they might want to rethink strategy.

Even if it did tank, they'd probably just "reimagine" a new Stargate show instead of revisiting the old. They seem to think just calling it Stargate is the magic key to get fans and non-fans to watch.

I genuinely believe that TPTB think we just need dragging along until the show airs and we all fall in love with their shiny new show and go 'Atlantis, who?'

They think it's the writing that keeps the fans, not the imput of the actors, and we just need to see the new episodes to be woo-ed. I also think that Joe F's defence of the actors and the way he stresses their importance to the success of the franchise is part of the reason why some of the writers and producers treating him so badly.

I want to see more Team (definitely more Teyla) but if a film is going to be The Further Adventures of Super Keller, I'd rather pass.

I have no intention of ever watching SGU........
It it my hope that it registers somewhere on the richter scale at 1 due to the disgraceful way they treated SGA cast and its fans. I agree with Joe when he said they were expendable...Had I been called to audition for SGU, I would have questioned how long I would have been acceptable to JM's fat ego.....

My exact feelings about Keller also......Jewell should have stayed aboard the Serenity fixing engines.
By getting rid of Weir and Carson and replacing them first with Carter, and then the truly annoying Woolsley......they killed a good thing.

And yet I've heard that Jason Momoa thinks the movie is going to happen... *shrugs* At the end of the day, we'll just have to wait and see. I haven't given up hope yet, though.

Jason got his info from Joe Mallozzi, who may be one of the few TPTB who does want it to happen, since he's the one who wrote the script and would (I assume) produce it.

I still hold out hope, but it wouldn't surprise me at this point if it never happens.

Ah, I hadn't realised that's where he got it from, though I did know that Joe Mallozzi seems to be behind it (what with writing it (with Paul Mullie) and all that).

If it does happen, they better be on alert, because while he may have written the script, he needs his fat ego worked to keep up the momentum.

I wonder if the set is still there.
I have pretty much given up. And that makes me sad.

Same here. Right now I'm pinning my hopes on David, Joe, Rachel and Jason getting new and better jobs, so we can continue to support them and not this failing franchise. :(

(Supposedly the set is still there. Mallozzi would probably post if it wasn't and we'd hear about it. That's the only sign left that they're still considering the movie.)

I think the writers ran out of steam as time wore on.......too bad as the material was there, had there been some creativity.....
It is odd given what ff can create, but my sister said they probably were not willing to pay for better quality.
They demonstrated it in Vegas, but even Joe commented that it was
sort of late in the game. I felt same......
I feel a lot of it was fluff, which for me was like watching episodes of the original Star Trek series...
I could not imagine a galaxy as huge as Pegasus having so little
to offer in terms of real threat.
They ran the Wraith and Replicators into the ground.
It was my hope that the film versions would have had more content,
in particular to showcase JF's acting talent that he was allowed to demonstrate in a few episodes, e.g. Conversion, Phantom and a few more, but also to develop story lines that were never considered.

They keep repeating the words "big screen version" in this article. There was never a plan to go to the big screen. If there were talks of it, then those are definitely rumors since JM has not mentioned his script as heading for "the big screen".

They are, however, talking about a telemovie -- a joint effort between MGM and Syfy.

Brad Wright said that we will probably never see another Stargate movie hit the big screen. There are obviously some contractual issues involved. But those issues don't come into play when making DTV or TV movies.

Date: 2009-08-03 09:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cimmerdeux.livejournal.com
Of course Brad Wright also thinks that MGM can't do Stargate without his okay or won't and that's not the case. The producers of the first movie want to do a second and third one based on the original characters and Brad said that ain't gonna happen although it's MGM's say.

I too think at this point the only way we'll get a movie is if SGU does not do well or gets only a lukewarm reception, then they'll scramble to get the movies out if they feel the fan interest is still there. Although, at this point I wonder what the set would be like especially for Joe and David? A little bit of an armed camp mentality?

I just hope they put the movie out despite SGU or SG1. I believe the movie will do well.. SGA had/has loyal fans.

Meh.

I am so annoyed about where SGA is at the moment that I cannot even figure out what to write.

I honestly do not care for an RDA centered movie, I like the guy but what else can they do with him now? Another team movie would be nice. An SGA team movie would be nice, but I think I rather have the seasons back. I doubt we will see a movie soon, sounds like the project is shelved for the moment while their shiny new toy gets its time in the sun.

I still hold hope, a small bit, that we will see an SGA movie soon and not one as crappy as AoT.

Be careful what you wish for! That jerk JM out of spite just may very well kill off the Sheppard character in the movie to get back at JF and all the fans that have sounded off against TPTB and him personally! Hell, he might kill off most of the characters just to put a final end to Atlantis once and for all! Wish he wasn't the one to be writing any script for Atlantis. I really hate that man!!!!

I don't think he'd kill anyone off for spite. Now, not give us some good character moments....that I could see him doing out of spite.

The producer/writers and the most of the crew still have jobs with SGU. It's the SGA cast that was left out in the cold.
