I don't go to the movies - time and lack of stuff I really want to see - but David Hewlett's SPLICE came to down and I said darnit, I'm going. Now I remember why I don't go often. Gotta sit through 15 minutes of pre-movie stuff!

Then some trailers...

A George Clooney movie "The American"
"Lottery Ticket"
"The Last Exorcism"
"Resident Evil" Afterlife" in 3D, or it's #3 ,or something
"Jonah Hex" - it's the only one I recognized

By the time they all ended I was beginning to forget why I was in the theater, but then...

...SPLICE finally started, and I enjoyed the movie. David Hewlett played a corporate baddie of sorts and you could see little bits of McKay leak through here and there ;)  I won't say what happens to his character, in case you go see it. Basically, the film is a nice study of sliding down that slippery slope to Hell with "okay, just one more day" or one more experiment, etc. I've liked Sarah Polley since her Avonlea days. The SPX were very good, and Dren was intriguing. Adorable as a child, and scarier has she grew/evolved. Won't say much more. It's a horror movie/morality play of sorts, so expect squickiness along the way, as well as morality issues. And like in real life, things don't end as you'd like them to end.

Splice looks like a remake of Species.........I was surprised Brody is in it and had no idea David was also.
I might see it when it comes out in DVD, probably in August given how quickly they come out now e.g. Alice came out in May and already in DVD.......

I saw Species but can't recall it too much... I do remember the species lady running around having sex with every man she could, so, this one is different.

I've been afraid to go and see this. Is it gory? I'm chicken. Will I need my popcorn box as a barf bucket? I don't mind scary, I just don't like gross. Otherwise I'll wait for the dvd.

Thinking, thinking. Okay, there is one rather bloody scene, but no humans die.

It came out last week in Germany and they interviewed the actors in the TV news right before SGU started, that's where I first heard of it. Without telling what happens to David's character - can you tell me for how much he is in the movie? Because I really only would go for him, and if he is only in the first half hour or so, then it would not be enough for me. Does he have a minor or major role?

He's in it several times - beginning, middle, near end - not a lot, but more than I thought he'd be in it. Let's put it this way, he's the corporate guy the scientists always deal with. I think seeing it depends also on whether you don't mind one scene of bloody gore, some sex scenes, and the scientists definitely doing stuff of questionable morality.

Wow! WEll, gotta admit movies look a lot better on the TV, cuz in the theaters, everything tends to be dark, details get washed out, but it was cool seeing DAvid Hewlett on the big screen :)

If you're debating that much, then wait for DVD. Then you can close eyes/speed search during any squicky stuff ;)

At least someone liked it, lol.

Prolly the worst science based horror film I've seen in a while. Definitely the worst in the past few years.

But hey, to each his own. You supported David!
