David Hewlett's updated his blog again :)

A Dog's Breakfast

How does a micro-budget movie get major Hollywood attention and spawn a spin-off television development deal, before it’s even had its first public screening?

With an eight dollar a month website, a few YouTube clips and "a few hundred bleary eyed nights" in front of his PowerBook, writer/director/actor David Hewlett has taken a core group of Stargate fans and forged them into a publicity force to be reckoned with. "People used to joke that on the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog", says Hewlett, "thanks to "A Dog’s Breakfast”, on the Internet, everyone knows our dog!" Hewlett is laughing all the way into season four of Stargate Atlantis, where he plays geek-cult favorite Doctor Rodney Mckay.

Anyone else worried that with all this directoring, producing, and writing success, David might leave Atlantis?! :o

Not that I begrudge him a thing, he's exceptionally talented. But we need Rodney!

Nah, I think he's having fun with ADB, but it's not a steady paycheck ;) I hope we'll see him as McKay for years to come.

First off, like the turtles. In some ways, I think this viral marketing is a 'revenge of the geeks,' forget your typical demographics and focus groups and take things directly to the public. I do hope TPTB as far as SciFi and SGA are concerned are paying attention and realize what an audience there is and how quickly they can become vocal (if they haven't already). DH (and Jane) do deserve a lot of credit where credit is due, just wish there were a few more screenings scheduled....

Yeah, the turtles are nice and mellow. Wish they had jellyfish though.... But David sure knows how to market well... wish they'd get a NYC screening!
