They're going to spend the extra money on new monster of the week movies. And wrestling. And "reality" shows. You see why I took the channel out of my onscreen guide years ago? Made my blood pressure get too high.
Five years seems to be the kill switch. I guess since so many actors sign a five year contract if they're on at the beginning of a show, it's cheaper to kill the show than to deal with contract negotiations. At least to the bean counters, who don't realize you can't just stick a new (and cheaper) show on the air and get the same results.
