Yes, I survived Hurricane Irene. Now to find some time to write up the fun stuff (not) and post pictures. High winds, rain, snakes! Tonight, I hope...

Plus, since there are soooo many computer-savvy folk out there... I need to get a netbook, or a PC that small. My laptop is nice but it's breaking my arm. I need more portability. I like to type, which is why I'm not into a tablet. My main goal is web access, working in Word / Excel.

Any suggestions?

Ooo, snakes?

I've seen some awesome spiders in & around my house lately (inc. one in the back yard that builds magnificent webs, one right across my screen door last night) - but no pictures.

I bought a Macbook Air last winter, for exactly the reasons you describe - small, lightweight, very portable, but full-size keyboard & uses standard software. (I use the native MacOS but you can also put Windows etc. on it.)

you can put windows and office on a mac? dare I ask the price of a mac airbook? I see lots at the library, but then I see those folk drive off in a BMW too! ;)

I use an eepc.. its light comfortable and the keyboard is not too small. has wifi and if you get office then it should be fine for running word and excel (i use both heavily myself).

I also have a little Asus Eee netbook. It's a couple of years old now (and probably needs a new battery - but it's seen some *heavy* use!) but it's a great little netbook. A nice portable size, not too heavy, but still got a proper keyboard and a decent screen size. I have MS Office on it and it has built-in wifi (and webcam etc too) so can easily use internet.

I am now a proud owner of a notebook PC from Gateway. It's a little slow but perfect for typing stuff, and it's really small and light. I do like it.

You were missed.
How is the writing coming along?
You took your writing and your brownies.
I would say well equipped for your absence.......

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents for my little msi Wind. The keyboard is nearly full-sized. The one I have is old enough that it's still running Windows XP, not sure how Windows 7 does on it. Still, it's pretty comfortable, typing-wise.

You're back and well. Snakes? Snakes taking refuge from the storm in your home? Snakes can be pushy like that. I'll be watching the comments section as I'm thinking the same thing, I need something smaller with awesome battery life and a decent keyboard.

Well, it was a hatchling. I almost thought it was a piece of wire until it moved and slithered under the couch, where I found it, along with many discarded toys of the dearly departed dog. yeah, gotta clean better...

Was it an harmless hatchling? I don't actually have a problem with snakes per se, as long as they're not poisonous but I have a problem if the cats find them before I do and then I have to get wounded reptiles to the Vivarium. The cats being well fed don't tend to eat them or kill them, they just smack the poor guys around.

Well, AFTER I caught it and released it, I googled it and it's harmless to people and most animals.
