I've been to three library book sales in as many weeks. Curse these libraries, holding them so close together!  And foolishly, I got there early (like an hour early) to secure a spot in the front, sorta. See the dealers show up the day (or days) before and mark their spot. There's one dealer who hires teenagers to grab stuff for him. Blech. A lot of dealers are perfectly fine, but there are a few who give them a bad name: the 'scoopers' - who come and literally wipe a whole section of a table into a box to sort out later, the ones that step on your feet, and of course, those with the accursed scanners. Most have 'em but most are polite enough NOT to grab and scan, then toss the book into a mess atop other books.Grrr.

Anyway, I'm trying to complete a collection of C.J. Box books about a game warden in Wyoming. However, I only go for paperbacks as hardbacks take up too much space. Have almost all the Robin Cook novels that I'm seeking, and only need one or two more of the Barbara Kingsolver books. I read TheBean Tree and its predecessor, and they're enjoyable reads.Otherwise, I'm searching for fiction books on plagues, end of the world (found 2012) and sci-fi books that are 1) not part of a multi-length series, 2) based on a videogame!), or 3) Star Trek or Star Wars. Lots of the latter categories end up in book sales. I did find a cool Reader's Digest book on road trips. I may never do those trips, but I can read about 'em. Also got the Complete Survival Manual by National Geographic, so, now when I'm stranded in the Arctic, I'll know what to do ;) Audiobooks are next to impossible to find, at least the ones I'm looking for, basically ones narrated by Joe Barrett, who has a fantastic voice. I noticed at the sales that the dealers were like locusts over the Manga section. The animal sections has tons of Marley and Me and Dewey the Library Cat books. Twlight has now replaced Harry Potter in the kid's section.

My survival at book sales is to bring just one grocery bag. I'll load it up, but nothing past that. I still have about four bags to read and they're making this tower in my room....

they're making this tower in my room..

There are multiple 'towers' in my sister and brother in law's library
All but one wall are bookcases floor to ceiling...ie built-ins
and towers all over the floor
He volunteers at The Tidal Wave which is the used bookstore for
Multnomah County Library system.
He brings home and brings home and they build towers in their
library.
It never stops.
I think WE, ie Sandy, Jim and I have a thing for books
I was Matilda in RL when I was a little girl save for the little red wagon she had..........
I still remember my first trip to a library
It left me feeling like Dorothy had to feel when she opened that door, once the house finally came to a stop, out into Munchkin land.

I can't see life without books. When all the power goes, I still have books to read :)

I do not believe they will ever be passe
They say with all the electronic 'replacements' that
the bound editions will be as the other things we used to use
but no longer do, e.g. 8 track, VHS, typewriters etc.
I think it is insulting to compare them with electronic gadgets

Ah, those horrible book sales. Luckily there aren't very many around here.

Everytime there's a book sale at the library I come home with a bag or two of books. I'll never get caught up reading!

I've long ago accepted that while I love reading, I really am in it for the books. ;)

There's a website that lists all library book sales. Fortunately I have this thing about driving over ten miles to a sale. Phew!

Let me know what C.J. Box books you're looking for, and I'll keep an eye out for them when we set our sale up week after next. I'm pretty sure there were some of his in paperback that went into sale storage.

Inspirational. Hopefully money generated is usedto keep the library open. Here they are a precursor to closing the small local libraries. Paper rocks!!

Fortunately people do read in this area, so there are multiple book sales which do help libraries stay open.

Great to see a fellow C.J. Box fan. Found him while undergoing chemo and have now read almost all his Joe Pike books. As far as Sci-Fi books. Some of my fav stand alone are This Alien Shore by Amy Robinson, The Sparrow by Maria Doria Russel, The Old Man's War by John Scalzi (turned into a series but can be read alone), The Forever War by Joe Haldeman just to mention a few.

A friend of mine said 'you HAVE to read the CJ Box novels'. I was busy going through the Hillerman novels - on an audiobook kick as it makes the commute easier - so I grabbed a CJ box audiobook and listened, then went through the rest, then realized, I should read these books in orders, so went through all of them in order. My goal is to win lotto and buy all the audiobooks! ;) Oh yes, I read John Scalzi too. Library got his new "Red Shirts" but gotta wait till it's back.
