Chicago Tribune reporter Maureen Ryan managed to wrangle some responses out of Joe Mallozzi regarding the changes to SGA
CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Here are some excerpts:
“Changes are afoot in outer space.”
“Stargate SG-1” is wrapping up its long run with 10 episodes that begin airing April 13, Sci Fi Channel announced Tuesday. A spinoff series, “Stargate Atlantis,” will also air 10 episodes of its third season starting on the same date.
The biggest news, however, is that Amanda Tapping, who played “Stargate SG-1’s” Lt. Col. Samantha Carter for 10 seasons, will join the main cast of “Atlantis” for its fourth season, which arrives in the fall.
…………………………..
Mallozzi didn’t want to be specific about how Higginson and Tapping’s characters will fit into the command structure of the Atlantis expedition in Season 4, but he did say that Carter will provide “more of a support role.”
……………………………..
Mallozzi would not confirm one development that has been widely discussed on “Stargate” fan sites for months, which is the alleged death of “Atlantis’” affable Scottish doctor, Carson Beckett, who’s played by Paul McGillion. The actor told Starburst magazine that his character is killed off in an upcoming Season 3 episode called “Sunday.”
……………………….
Asked whether any other cast members of “Atlantis” are leaving, he said, “stay tuned on that one.”
……………………….
On fan reactions to the upcoming season of “Atlantis”: I think fans are needlessly worried. They read spoilers and get upset [before they see the episodes]. The heartache and the anger – fans would save themselves a lot of that if they would wait and watch the episodes. I’m sure they are already starting their letter-writing campaigns. But in our case, to be brutally honest, they don’t really have an impact on creative decisions.”
No comment. At least none that are printable, at this point in time (grrrr).

Date: 2007-02-22 12:06 pm (UTC)I dont like carter, not even a smidgen..why does he persist in the belief that everyone must like both shows esp cater.
its just idiotic to make a statement about fans making no impact and not expecting it to create even more bad feeling towards him and by extension the show aswell. i think he feels its funny to poke at fans to get a reaction, unfortunatley i think he has pushed this a little to far and may get a shock when he sees the viewing ratings come season 4. i think a lot of fans annoyed by his attitude will not watch on tv but probably use other web based sites to decide wether its worth tuning in therefore dropping the ratings through the floor!
shakes head and bemoans idiotic crap writters/producers who should stick to writting about food and ony have control of there blog and nothing else!!!
