Decided to start decluttering, which meant going 'what's in those boxes?' Ah, old TV Guides from the late 90s. Alas, that's about when they started changing over, cutting out guest credits, etc, so just pulled out any pretty pictures or worthwhile articles and condensed a whole xerox box of guides to about one inch of clippings.

Some notes, back in '98/'99....

* THE CLOSER was a sitcom starring Tom Selleck, not a cop drama on TNT.
* LA FEMME NIKITA was a hot show
* Yes, they made the show LOVE BOAT, THE NEXT WAVE. Ah, yes, we all make mistakes..
* George Clooney was still in ER! Then later, they had a shot of him with blonde hair. Aiee, a mistake he has fortunately NOT repeated! ;)
* The TV Guides were full of Princess Di memorial dolls and whatnot.
* Ah, the joys of classic made-for-tv Fox movies like TERROR IN THE MALL (ack, cough cough)
* Why doesn't SciFi pluck this show - MERCY POINT - a medical drama in outer space - to fill its slots. I mean, geez, it's gotta be better than some of those drecky scifi flicks they show Saturday night.
* The Hansons! Remember them? Pop trio of three brothers (think it was three). Ah yes, well, burn bright and then poof.
* The beginning of bad TV starts with Fox's "When Good Pets Go Bad," showing a snarling dog.
* Lots of X-FILES ads. Ah, that's when scifi was good.
* NOW AND AGAIN - heck, Skiffy needs to repeat that gem, or get it out on DVD if nothing else.
* Heh, found a BAYWATCH HAWAII ad with Jason Momoa. Ha!
* And for SUPERNATURAL fans, found an article on Jensen Ackles ... "The doe-eyed 20-year-old' who joined Days of Our Lives as Eric Brady... Oh my, styled hair, cashmere sweater. Why do guys get better looking as they get older? Much prefer Dean on SPN. Hmm, I should scan the article and load it.

One thing I noticed that we had a lot less channels, and a lot more movies and choices. Yeah, less choices, but better ones. Reality shows didn't really exist. Now, we've got lord knows how many channels just full of well, crap. Inane, insulting reality shows... infomercials. I mean, in the old days (really, less than a decade ago), channels that now show junky infomericals, etc. after midnight used to show syndicated action shows (all sorta, with an emphasis on buddy-friendships, etc.).

Well, THE 4400 just started up and Kavan Smith is in it, so that's it for today :)

*is having flashbacks* Yes, TV certainly has changed and maybe not for the better. There are fewer good shows and more crappy ones. But YAY for 4400 and Kavan, I hope he has more scenes this season.

Way, way back, TV Guide used to post all the guest stars and who they played, and episode title. Now, you're lucky to get a blurb that says "SG1 team encounters aliens." So, it's easy to rip out a page or two and discard the new version. Saves space, too!

But he does that well too (looking pretty) ;) but yes, he got to do more. Hopefully he's in next week's too, but I like the show on its own merits and tape it. Should buy the DVDs, really...

I remember him on Days. I used to watch taht regularly because I thought one of the actors looked like an older Brian Littrell, and Eric was one of my favorite characters.

Interesting enough, I don't think the character was brought back after he died in a car accident. Jenson must have left an impression.

I found an old TV Guide that was discussing Season 4 of Farscape. I have no idea why I saved it because at the time I could have cared less about Farscape. But it is interesting to see what they were seeing then.

Granted, I also found yesterday during a massive cleanout of my room, an 2003 article of Orlando Bloom where he looks ridiculously young.

I still have tv guide clippings - somewhere in a box in the house - back to the 70s. I should unearth them, scan a few and stick 'em on the web for the heck of it.

I gave up on DOOL when Stefano was dead but not dead again and then Marlena got possesed and I went 'I am sooo out of here.' Haven't touched a soap since.

I stopped watching when Jason Cook (Shawn Brady) and Kirsten Storms (Belle Black) left the show and other actors replaced them. The characters weren't reconisable, Belle in particular, to me anymore because of the changes teh actors put in place. So I stopped being able to watch.

I only watch CBS soaps and only because my grandmother watches them and really can't excape it when your there. And I follow Sam/Lucas via the soap digests I look at while waiting in line. Thats my only connection to Days now.

Yeah, I sorta remember stuff like that . I remember Marlena's kids suddenly one day were toddlers, the next week, teenagers. What do they do - put MiracleGro in the formula bottles?? ;)

My grandmother calls it Soap Opera Academy. They go to school and all of sudden they are adults.

Remember the denim three ring binders from years ago? I have one filled with cut outs from TV Guide from back in the day when there was all kinds of pics and articles. Every once in awhile, to let the kids make fun of me, I get it out and we look at all the ChiPs, Buck Rogers, and Vegas stuff (just to mention a few). I used to save my school lunch money to buy the Guide instead. Ah, the good ol' days.

Oh my, I remember those shows. Somewhere in a clost or the attic, I know I still have a ChiPs poster. :)

Oh, I remember most of those shows (I'm feeling a little old - it wasn't really that long ago was it?). SciFi should definitely pick up Mercy Point (it was UPN? I think someone from SGA guested on it) and Now and Again (my Mom and her friends loved that show and are definitely not scifi types).

Baywatch, in all its incarnations, sigh. I think someone needs to do a thesis on the worldwide popularity of this show - seriously. My last lab boss was from Iran (fled as a teenager when he was old enough for military duty). His parents who stayed used to watch the show illegally on their satellite dish and wanted to visit the Baywatch beach when they visited Calif the first time. One of my friends who did research in rural China (the plains with the pikas from the Discovery channel BBC Earth special) was amazed that people were familiar with the show - seriously! Who'd have thunk that the Hoff and Pam wete ambassadors of the American dream? I'm not sure if this is amazing or scary...

Yeah, I don't thikn I've seen any books on Baywatch, not like the Harry Potter - Star Wars books dissecting the craziness over it. Wow, sorta scary that people out in the middle of nowhere know all about Baywatch!
