See Teyla's picture in the nice icon? If you don't want spoilers, don't click on the cut. If you wanna discuss this episode, click away...

On August 15th, Joe Mallozzi posted this tidbit to his blog: "Marty G. pitched out a special guest star for Outcast, a character we haven’t seen since his debilitating injury in season one. Won’t the fans be surprised. Well, probably not as I’m sure you’ve figured it out."

First "Outcast" is the Joe Flanigan proposed Sheppard backstory episode that will be written by Alan McCullough.

Anyway, in the time the blog entry was posted, it changed. At first it just said 'season'. No season mentioned. Then Mallozzi edited it to include the actual season number. So event hough many of us are gung-ho for Col. Everett to return, but he didn't show up until Season 2, and Bates got clobbered and given a subdural hematoma, among ohter things, at the end of season one. So, if it's Bates, it's got be traumatic brain injury as busted collarbone and ribs aren't debilitating injuries. Darned nuisance, but they heal. Brain injuries don't necessarily heal.

Anyway, I'd love it to be Everett. I theorize with the title OUTCAST, that's Sheppard, and since it's a Sheppard backstory, it could be a military hearing. Maybe his actions in the Pegasus Galaxy have been noticed and some idiot back on Earth wants him to account of his actions.  In either case, Bates or Everett could be character witnesses (well, Bates probably wouldn't be the best, while Everett would). Of course, this all depends on the actors' avaibility. Dean Marshall (Bates) is listed as doing a movie, while Clayton Landry (Everett) has finished a movie.

Comments? Speculation?

Speculation? I'm thinking Bates, as not to be technical, Everett didn't suffer an injury - he got sucked on by a Wraith. Plus, Everett was last seen in S2...

I'd honestly prefer it to be Bates as well. I liked his character. He filled a spot in SGA as an antagonist - I think the show has been sadly lacking in finding another character as good as Bates was at that. As much as I loved the addition of Caldwell in S2, he never really filled the role of creating tension as well as I'd hoped.

Oh gosh, you got me to click on a spoiler - but remember what I said, speculation spoilers = good, actual viewed spoilers = bad.

I want Bates back too - but I'd think if there's an hearing, he ain't gonna be on Shep's side. The last we saw of him, he was dead set against Teyla being on Shep's team, and accused Shep twice of letting his personal feelings getting in the way.
If it was Everett, sorry, that's boring - he would be defending Shep and I'd think the Outcast part would mean Shep's flying solo.

I'm almost done rewatching S1 with my son (who's now a big fan after JF signed his drawing) and I can't think of any other debilitating injuries - unless you count Grodin and that was one hell of an injury!!

I'm going for Bates, who said he'd be awake when Sheppard visits him? They'd still neeed the actor if he was in a coma.

I, too, am going with Bates. He definitely had a debilitating injury in S1, and we have no idea what happened to him. He really got under my skin, so kudos to DM for playing him so well.

My money (all $1.68) is on Bates. Hmm, wonder what he'd think of Ronon... Yeah, he was an antagonist, but also very understandable (and necessary).

Oooh, I love Bates. I mean, I didn't like the character (he was mean! to Teyla!), but I actually kind of respected him. Mostly though, it's that the actor was also on Da Vinci's Inquest, which I adored, and it makes me want to see more of him.

for the life of me I can't remember what happened to Bates (subdural hematoma you say?) but that'll be cool, a blast from the past, and I can't wait for Sheppard backstory! :D

I also think it will be Bates, because who else could it be? Grodin, coming back from the dead??? No, Bates makes more sense when it's the episode about Sheppard's backstory.

lol, surely, there must be more ppl with injuries? I loved to read your speculations! I personally would love to see Everett come back! But unless they found a cure for Wraith injuries, it is unlikely. Bates? I don't like him, but he is cool because it brings back memories of stern Sheppard! Military hearing? would be cool!
