Stargate Atlantis: Joe Flanigan on Chelsea Lately 7-14-2008

Joe Flanigan did indeed appear on the E! Channel (US cable) show Chelsea Lately. Below are the links to two videos of the brief interview. It’s in two pieces (videos) cuz that’s all the digital camera can handle. I’m sure one video will show up on YouTube any day now ;)

I really don't see what was so bad about it, after reading people's comments I thought it was going to be unbearably cringeworthy but the interview was no more asinine and the host no more inane than they ever are on these kind of shows. Far bigger stars than Joe have had to put up with far worse indignity. Even if they spent more time talking about Britney than they did SGA, at least we got to see something a little different from Joe than him going over the same old, same old.

As for him appearing on any of the big chat shows, unlikely to happen. Joe may be famous to those of us who are in to SciFi and active in online fandom but he's pretty low down on the Hollywood food chain.

On the latter remark, very true, which also means he's not harrassed by the papparazzi, which is good. However, I must admit that I had no idea how awful talk shows were on E! It's a channel I rarely watch and guess I now know why ;) I think if the host hadn't spent the first 20 minutes of the show being so crass, wouldn't have cringed so much ...

I have to say I'm rather bemused at how negative the response to this interview has been. She doesn't really slag off Scifi fans all that much, I've heard far worse. As for Joe not jumping to the defence of the fans - if he had he'd have come across as a complete arse who takes himself and the show far too seriously.

I'm one of the biggest scifi geeks around and I wasn't remotely offended by anything either of them said, sure it made me roll my eyes a little bit but a lot of people just don't "get" scifi (Joe F included I suspect) but that's fair enough, I don't get reality TV or soap operas.

I didn't think it was bad either. Pretty normal, imo, and I didn't think he looked uncomfortable except when she went on about his looks.
