The news didn't surprise me, when I read it (over at GW at http://www.gateworld.net/news/2009/04/richard-dean-anderson-will-be-on-stargate-universe/). To me, it's just basic stuntcasting. They did this with Stargate Atlantis - don't think show can stand on its own merits, perhaps but more likely, they are horrified they'll lose existing viewers so, hence the stuntcasting. The only thing bad about stuff like this is that stuntcasting usually sucks away decent dialogue and time from the regulars on the show, and alas, O'Neill (as they write him) usually has a penchant for embarrassing/lame jokes. Since SGU is supposed to be dramatic, let's hope the writers are smart and lose the lame jokes.

I suspect a decent percentage of fans who said "no way" will tune for RDA, and it wouldn't surprise me one iota if SciFi begins advertising RDA being in the show to keep enticing fans to tune in. They just won't say just *when* he'll be in... I've watched enough TV to know they'll work this slant as much as they can ;)

I'm not surprised in the least. His and Daniel's character have been with the franchise since the beginning. It's almost tradition at this point for them to be on the show. It wouldn't be Stargate anything if they weren't there to kick it off.

Heh, considering that they reuse scripts too, no surprise ;) Although I expect they'll get Carter in there too.
