eligible?

David twittered that he's not eligible for the Leo award because of where he lives. He said that he called 'them' to tell 'them'. I haven't heard that he's been formally disqualified but I guess we'll hear something about that soon. He didn't mention the Constellation award......

yeah, i went online to the leo awards and looked at the eligibilty and couldnt quite make it out exactly. but it seems, if i read it correctly, that he is not really eligible because he is both not canadian anymore, became an american at some point, but very recently i think. and also, altho he worked in bc/van, he lived in wash state. he mentions more than once in interviews about how he was forever going thru the border.

wonder who put him up for it and didnt know that about him? think david nykll should have been put up for the supporting role. he is great.

Multi-citizen

David is still Canadian. He's also British and a new American citizen. Yeah, you apparently can do that. It's the residency that got him disqualified.

The Craft Entrant must be a Canadian citizen or have permanent residence status, and have maintained a residence in British Columbia for the 12 months preceding commencement of principal photography of the Program entered for adjudication.

He lived in Washington State while he was filming Atlantis. In fact, in order to become a US citizen, David had to live in the US for at least 5 years.

The Leo Awards sure updated that site quick. I'm sorry I didn't get a screen cap of David's nomination, even though it wasn't valid.

Wow, it didn't occur to me until just now that all the male main credited actors of Atlantis were all American there at the end - Joe, David, Jason and Bob Picardo.

The Nominees for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series are…

Jewel Staite - Stargate Atlantis - Tracker

What? ::rolleyes:: Not that I don't like Jewel but I don't see it. Best Lead?

I've given up trying to fathom why Jewel gets these nominations... she's okay but she's not a lead, and definitely not on SGA.

Constellation awards

The Constellation Awards are fan awards. In order to vote:

From http://constellations.tcon.ca/vn.shtml#wcv
1. You are either a Canadian citizen (not necessarily living in Canada) or a permanent resident of Canada, OR
2. You were a member of the TCON Promotional Society in July of 2008 (during Polaris 22), OR
3. You are currently a member of the TCON Promotional Society, with a membership not expiring before Polaris 23 (July of 2008).

(That last date for Polaris 23 is supposed to be July of 2009, I'm sure. I emailed them about it)

So, non-Canadians can vote if they pay at least the $10 non-attending con membership fee. Everyone must also pay a $5 voting fee. I like charging for voting. It'll stop major ballot stuffing (darn!).

I swear that scifi fans are notorious for stuffing the ballot box. GW's polls are a prime example of what happens when fans have too much time on their hands ;)

Jewel Straite, who deserves many awards for her role in Firefly, gets a nomination for her lame character on Atlantis for an episode where she has to be rescued again.

Vegas was a great episode, (can't get Solitary Man out of my head.)

Alas, I've figured it's not worth trying to fathom why Jewel is always nominated. She seems a nice enough person, but acting-wise, nothing special...

She's really good in Firefly. I think she is an actress that does well with a good writer (like Joss Whedon)

Part of the problem w/Keller was the awful dialogue they gave her...

Bummer we can't vote on it.

Isn't RACHEL the lead actress? in the order of the show coming on Rachel is *before* Staite. Therefore RACHEL is the lead NOT Staite!!!!!

*sigh*

I give up...

Lead=Main?

I guess that since Jewel is in the main credits, she's considered a "lead".
