Ah, SciFiWire posted this article today.... highlighted the relevant portions.

NEW SG-1, Atlantis films due, just not yet

Stargate Universe executive producer Robert C. Cooper has written scripts for a new potential Stargate SG-1 movie and a Stargate Atlantis film, but said it might be a while before they get a green light.

"We're ready to go," Cooper said in an exclusive interview over the weekend in Pasadena, Calif., where he was promoting SGU at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "We're just waiting for the right opportunity," he said. "We want to be successful with it. The studio wants to be successful, and we really don't want to proceed with something in the wrong climate, which I think financially it is right now."

Two previous SG-1 straight-to-DVD movies, Continuum and The Ark of Truth, sold well, but the current economic downturn makes DVD premieres less lucrative than they were in the past.

"It's tough, because we were very successful with the first two SG-1 movies," Cooper said. "Since then, the economics have changed a little bit. DVDs aren't selling the same way they were when we released those even just a year, and a year and a half ago."

A new compilation of Stargate Atlantis episodes, Fans' Choice, just dropped on Blu-ray on Aug. 4, featuring the pilot "Rising" and an extended cut of "Enemy at the Gate." That won't help Cooper mount a new production.

"That, obviously, is already produced," Cooper said. "Putting it on DVD or Blu-ray is not the same as the investment it would take to start from scratch."

Should the two DVD films be made, they would follow previous entries in having independent storylines that would not affect the upcoming Syfy original series SGU. "They would stand alone," Cooper said. "The Atlantis one takes place shortly after the end of season five. The SG-1, I think, takes place sometime in an intermediary period between when the SG-1 movies left off and when Universe began."

-------------------

Basically, they're saying not much, nothing we already didn't know. It's sorta bizarre that Cooper goes "I think" about a movie. I mean, they're in the position to know the most about the movies as they're writing them! *headdesk* I"m not holding out much for an SGA movie. I hope the actors find more work and then TPTB have to work around the actors' schedules!

I will believe it when I see it

I also wonder how JM's vendetta against JF will fit in all this given Sheppard's vital role in SGA.....

I find Cooper's 'economic downturn' kind of hilarious given they obviously had the $$$ to do SGU........

My feeling is that yes, the DVD downturn (which I'd read about in Variety) is real. However, I also think that with SG-1 gone, with BSG gone, with SGA going into a sixth year with contract renewals and salary increases, the studios went, hey, let's do a series that combines both SG and BSG, and well, we'll need money for it, so, down came the axe on SGA. As for Mallozzi, I rarely visit his blog anymore (and somehow, feel better for it!) ;)

I only visited his blog once and that particular time
there was someone frothing about how 'grateful' she was that
he had warned SGA fans about Flanigan.....
That was enough for me.
His fat ego displayed lavishly on his blog and her comments
which lead me to believe JM was trashing JF on his blog, was
enough for me to pull the plug on any further visits.

Hi
Could you give the link concerning this declaration about Joe Flanigan?
I know the JM blog and I've never gone to coz I don't appreciate this man coz his behavior.
I know this man avoid to name Joe F on his blog and never answering to all question about the lead actor.
Shame and lame.
Do you know when he made this declaration?
Thanks for your answer.

I checked all of JM's archives and could never find his remark, but
he must have made one for her to thank him profusely for the warning
I have heard nothing but good reports about him.....very accommodating....
It kind of annoys me to think he is demeaning JF on his blog,
but that is what small people do, isn't it?

Hey... I'm also interested in what went down between JF and JM. I came late to the fandom, and even later to JM's blog, so I never knew JM before he stopped mentioning/photographing JF. All I know is that I wouldn't have given SGA a second glance without JF and his unique acting style and strangely hott hairdo (and okay, I'll stop gushing now). But I really enjoy when JM posts pictures of the actors (rare occasions that they are) and found myself wishing for some of JF, a wish that was never granted (although I did manage to find some in the archives). So, just curious for those who were around then, what happened?
I know about MS and the 6th season of SG-1, but they must have subsequently worked something out, because JM has nothing but nice things to say about MS.
Oh, and re: SGU: I'm going to watch it. Not for RC and BW or any of the other writers/producers, but rather to support the actors. They managed to snag some of my favorite little-known actors (and two of my favorite WELL-known ones as well) and I don't want *them* to lose their jobs just because they went to work for people who didn't have SGA's best interests at heart.

Sorry for such a long comment and forgive me; I'm a N00B!

I never saw any post/mention myself, but then rarely read Mallozzi's blog. I think if anything did occur between JF and JM, it's behind the scenes, and we as fans are not privy to it.

Jumpin' in ;)

given they obviously had the $$$ to do SGU

And the fact that SGA's S5 has sold more copies so far than SG-1's S10!

**nods** and what about The People's Choice?
I guess that counts for nothing too??

Not to mention that they put in $ 1 mio *more* in each SGU-ep than they did with SGA - like Wright himself stated in an interview. Ahem ... yes, I can see where the money for possible movies ended up. *snerk*

***nods***
that was my intent when I said they seem to have found the
$$$$$ to do SGU didn't they???
IMO it is like the story about the guy who got rid of his
car because his ashtrays were full.
If they wanted new, then why on earth did they not do something
with the writing?????.......
Wraith and Replicators seemed to be their ONLY theme.......
Like there was nothing/nobody else.......in Pegasus.
Their writing left track somewhere and never regained momentum save for Vegas, and I believe like Joe stated in an interview, 'kind of late'
Finally, what makes me laugh is SGU actors are all tripping over themselves like they discovered something 'brand new'.....
HELLO!!!!
been there, done that, just different crew and from what I can see
nothing there to interest me in the least.
Also if I were those SGU actors, I would watch my back for incoming and my feet for carpets that are literally pulled out when you least expect it.
