Volcano links, well, just because… well, they are very fascinating. I wonder if it's because I watched so many prehistoric monster movies as a kid in which there were volcanoes...

This has got to be one of the most stunning images caught of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, which erupted in April 2010 and wreaked havoc across Europe.

Best overall site for news is http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/europe/2010/iceland_volcano/default.stm

and their TV channel is very good as well. More indepth coverage than CNN, etc.

Also, check out the International Volcano Research Centre;s site:

http://www.intlvrc.org/news.htm#eyja - this is your scientific site, but still mostly in layman's terms so you can understand what they're talking about.

Plus, they have live volcano cams set up on many of the major volcanoes like Mt. St. Helens and ones in South America. (Yeah, I'm a closet volcano geek too... will never, ever forget my first trip out to MSH in '97.:) )

The telegraph has a gallery or awesome pictures which i think you have on your list. I definately liked to it a coupl eof days back.

I love volcanoes.. ever since i did my A-level geology. I hope to one day be able to go photograph one like those pictures.. because they are just amazing.. deadly.. but like most deadly things stuningly beautiful.

You know this mroning i looked into the "clear" blue skies and there were con trails everywhere, looked like a cloud spider had exploded. I guess they are throwing every possible plane into the air while they still can...

Yeah, a day (or more) without planes makes clearer skies. I know after 9/11 it was sure quieter. then after, they rerouted frigging NYC airplanes over our town. Probably just a fraction of what poor Heathrow neighbors go through, but annoying anyway, especially those #(!#! yuppie helicopters that buzz over.

But yeah, I'd love to see a volcano like that. I hope someone's taking some nice high-def video of this to put out on DVD!

so dangerous, so destructive...yet so stunningly beautiful.

Only thing I´m sad about is, that so many Island Ponies suffocated in the ashes...there were pics from those horses covered with white dust...spoooooky!

GReetings

They did? I know the farmers were getting them all in but with all the news over cancelled flights, poor Iceland got ignored.

Well, most ponies were saved - and tranfered to fields on the other side of the mountain, so the wind did not bring the ashes to them. But some died eventually. Those picvs were so...heartbreaking. Those herd was one of the "wild" running onces from the National Park...

And a lot of people lost their existence on this tinny island.
I was there once for holiday (riding and hinking).
