Saw this image the other day and its no less hideous on second viewing. I guess its some kind of computer generated image or just the 'shop from hell but its just so overly polished which is not the look I want them to be going for. I want a gritty, dirty Conan - you should be able to practically smell the blood and sweat - what I don't want is a glorified shampoo commercial.
I think this movie is something of a risk for Jason, if it turns out half decent then it really could rocket his career, there's definitely a gap in the market when it comes to muscle bound action heroes these days. But if the film turns out to be really bad (stilted dialogue, campy performances, cheap production) then it could really damage his chances of being taken seriously as an actor. I think what may help him is that most people seem to have very low expectations for this, they're expecting it to be awful.
The photo shopped thing is awful. Jason is fine without all the tweaks. I don't think this movie though is a risk for Jason. Even if it fails flat, he's getting a ton of exposure from this, more so than from a Sci-Fi TV show. As you saisd. Once on the big screen, he'll be on the map for every casting director, especially in the void for young physical actors. Whatever the outcome, he'll be doing more movies.
As far as getting 'good roles' with meaty parts, he's type-cast bases off his looks sadly regardless. Even Vin Diesel who started off in "Boiler Room" only got the action roles. Hopefully "A Game of Thrones" will give him better exposure.
You're right, this movie is excepted to be bad. Jason even called Joe telling him he didn't think the script was all that, but Joe told him to go for it and try to do more with it. I don't have high expectations, but hopefully it'll only be campy. *fingers crossed*
I had to actually study it to go, oh, PS poisoning... but its' very Frazetta in the styling. I'm hoping the movie will be appropriately campy and just fun, and that it gets better reviews than Predator remake did in a London newspaper. Oh, it was pretty brutal!
