And I'm going! Well, as soon as I get a passport, and win the Lotto jackpot cuz I don't have the bucks (or time off from work) to flit off halfway across the globe. If only.... sigh...
Well, for local fans who live in NZ/Oz, it's no different than us folk driving to a Creation Con, I suppose, but if I flew over there, I'd stay for a month and see the sites.
If I went there, I'd definitely go for a holiday. Next year, I'd like to do Vancouver and Maybe SDCC, cos Comic Con seems like a good laugh. I wouldn't even go to that for the guests, it would be solely for the experience of an event that big.
Aside from Vancouver, which is where he works so he'd need a damn good excuse, Joe has yet to turn up to any con outside of the US and UK that he has been scheduled for...that I know of anyways.
He did make it to the NJ con last year, after disappearing from the guest list for a month or two. He was announced as a guest again a week before the con.
Heh, who DIDN'T disappear from that guest list? I mean, every week another actor fell off! ;) We lost MIchael Shanks, but got Jason Momoa, so I was okay with that, as I suspect Michael will do cons more than Jason will.
I was very disappointed he wasn't at the Vancouver con this year. He was the main reason I got my ticket. Torri said he was back in LA coaching his son's basketball game. Can't fault him for that but I really wanted to meet him.
All I know is that buying a ticket to any convention with actors is basically a crapshoot. They can get jobs at the last minute, get sick, etc. I honestly can't fault Joe for wanting to spend time with his kids. He probably spends a LOT Of time (all week) away from them, and you can't get back that time or those experiences once they're gone.
Hopefully he'll be able to make the Oz/NZ cons so those fans can see him.
He's been scheduled to come to Aus and NZ several times over the past two years, and hasn't come, so I'd be surprised if he did. Unless he was planning to bring the whole family with him.
I just get the feeling he's not too keen on conventions. He probably does as many as he's obliged to do contracturally, and leaves it at that.
24 hours on a plane to get to Aus is a bit different to a few hours to get to London, so there's that issue as well.
BUT, he was supposed to come here in 2007 when Torri did her NZ/Aus cons, and didn't. He's also been scheduled for two other conventions in Aus this year, that he hasn't done.
The con in question at that point was the Best Of Both Worlds convention, which was originally to be held earlier on in the year, and then postponed until November. I don't know what happened to it after that. But this is a different set of convention organisers, and it's only just recently been announced, so I assume it's only recently been organised for him to come along as well. I emailed the con organisers and they confirmed that he was a guest though (as much as they can, of course, given the normal caveats).
I certainly hope he DOES go! Having met the man twice now, I want to share the delight with everyone who has a chance to meet him. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for anyone going to this con :)
I think I just yelled my self horase yelling that Joe Flanigan is coming to NZ EEEE!!!! I'm so excited! I'd given up hope but OMG I totally need to go! Thank you so much!

Date: 2007-08-04 01:10 am (UTC)SDCC just looks amazing. It's so massive and I don't think you'd even need to be at panels to have fun there.
