September 26, 2007 - Stargate: Atlantis cast member Paul McGillion has revealed that he has auditioned for the role of U.S.S. Enterprise chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in director J.J. Abrams' big-screen Star Trek reboot.

Yeah, that would be great. They've already got Zachary Quinto from HEROES as Spock. They should go after Paul for Scotty :) Fingers crossed!

Scotty was my fave character on the show and I can't think of a more fitting actor to take Jimmy Doohan's place than Paul. Hope like hell he gets it.

He would be PERFECT as Scotty!! He even looks a bit like a young Doohan (if you squint.....lol maybe it's just me)

Seriously, i can't think of anyone better to play him and i've been secretly hoping he'd audition for it for months!

With him and the guy from Heroes as Spock.......i'd definately watch the film. :D

The weird thing is that I read somewhere (I thought it was on SciFi Wire) James McAvoy (a Scot who actually speaks Scots English as a native, though Paul is so good I can't tell the difference) had already been cast as Scotty, and I thought it was even in IMDb, but it's certainly not in IMDb now. I don't know if it was a false rumor or they were negotiating or what. I can't find the article and can't remember when I read it (helpful, aren't I?).

I'm a ST fan (DS9 was my favorite). I'm still a little weirded out at the thought of Zach Quinto playing Spock! He's just completely connected with creepy in my head!

I certainly hope Paul McGillion gets it!

I think Zachary will do a great job as Spock :) And I'd heard about James McAvoy but there's no solid casting announcement (IMDB isn't very reliable). Sometimes fans add what they want to see ;)

OMG-Squee! I thought I'd seen folks chatting about how he should audition since he'd be perfect for the role, but this is the first I'd heard he'd actually done so. Can't see how they'd find anyone better suited for it.
