Ooookaaayyy.... is it my imagination (or being tired?) in that I don't see a single actor doing a commentary??

Nope, it is not your imagination...I was rambling about this in my journal a while back. I think it is probably one of the stupidest moves they've ever made with the DVDs...

Since I don't have to pay for them, I guess I can't complain...

You don't have to pay for 'em?? Wish I could say that. Yeah, I ranted about this earlier too. I hope in season 4 they beg/cajole, pay for a Caribbean vacation to get the main cast to do commentaries.

eTeam. I review - I get to keep the DVDs. Not really that exciting, and something I could start on right now. Not like I've not seen the episodes, and don't have some info to start docking points. The special features are going to need to be really special this time out.

I hoped when I ranted about it that it might turn out that there was some mistake, however this keeps turning up, so I guess not. I'm definitely hoping for cast members to do S4 ones. I really cannot understand why it never happened this season. It's a 45 minute job for each one. They can't seriously be telling me, they couldn't find time every now and then to get an actor to do a commentary or two.

I found this out with Season 9 of Stargate SG-1 and boy was I pissed. Amanda commented on Unending--that's it for the actors! For SG-1 that's almost the only reason I bothered to buy the DVDs. Now that the show is already canceled, I may not waste my money buying Season 10.

I was afraid that was going to happen with SGA and here it is. I suppose it has now been written into the actors' contracts that they will get PAID for doing commentaries. And God knows, MGM and Bridge aren't going to pay for that. Grrrrr. God, David and Joe and Martin and Martin were SO good on the Season 2 commentaries!

The two Martins are decent commentators, but I listened to a couple of the other ones on SG-1 and...meh. I don't need to hear endlessley about special effects, set design, and camera angles, thank you. MGM better realize WHY the Stargate DVDs are best-sellers, and it ain't all for the production values.

I suppose I ought to put this in a letter and send it off to someone who has some power, right? Or maybe I'll just comment on Gateworld, since that seems to get a lot of attention.

Well, don't see how it court hurt MGM/Skiffy/whoever to shell out a little more cash for the actors for commentaries. I guess this is one time I'm glad I watch the shows and get around to commentaries a year or so later... However, should probably wait a month or a little longer, see if we get another PR and if the DVDs come out without actor commentaries, complain straight to MGM. MGM doesn't troll GW to my knowledge, and complaint letters straight to the source will probably have more impact.

I have mixed feelings about this. David and Joe do good commentaries, but that one ep that just had Torri and Rachel talking about their yoga class and what they were going to do after they finished recording the commentary track was deadly dull. I like Martin Wood's commentaries. I'm glad that everyone doing commentaries this time actually works on SGA (as opposed to Dan Shea and Gary Jones, who have nothing to contribute because they don't even work on the show).

I guess I'll miss hearing about things from the actors' point of view, but if the commentaries are interesting, then it won't matter to me as much who's giving them.

I thought I had seen before that there weren't going to be any commentaries by the actors, but I was still hoping... especially for DH and Kate to do "M&MM'. That could have been hysterical. I also really want to see a bloopers reel for some of the episodes.

I was hoping the previous info released was inaccurate... but this is the official release info, no? I can't understand not having A SINGLE actor on any of the commentaries. Now.. much as I like Martin and Martin and usually find their commentaries interesting... most people do watch the show for the people IN FRONT OF the camera and that's what people are interested in seeing/hearing more of. Yeah, not all the actor commentaries are great but they usually add a further level of interest for me.. with David Hewlett and Joe Flanigan being the best contributors. And, I'm sorry, but there is a limit to how interested I am in hearing a director explain how or why they filmed a particular shot a particular way. Yes, a certain amount of that stuff if okay... but not for the whole commentary. And do I really want to listen to the FX guy explain how they did the FX shots? Not so much...

What I don't understand too is the conflicting information... Ken Cuperus mentioned MONTHS ago on GW that he had recorded the commentary for Common Ground. I have to admit I worried when Ken disappeared abruptly off GW and never returned that he had had his knuckles rapped by TPTB for interacting with the fans without their permission/say so (particularly as well-intentioned fans began to complain when they heard Ken was leaving the writing staff (mainly due to staff from the cancelled SG1 being carried over to SGA - "last in, first out", as it were)) and this reinforces that fear... that they are now pissed off with Ken... maybe even to the extent of re-recording the Common Ground commentary without him? :/

I am thinking now that this still might be 'tentative,' I hope, as "Real World" doesn't have any listing at all. I mean, they gotta have commentary on all episodes, right???

Fingers crossed that as we get closer (well, what, less than two months now?) we'll get another press release like the week before that lists actors on the commentaries. I just can't see absolutely NO actors doing commentaries.

*grumble* That really sucks that they don't have actors doing the commentaries. I'm sure that some of the special features will be entertaining, but it would be so much better if the actors were involved with the commentaries...

It is stupid to have no actor commentary on season 3, after having the first 2 seasons filled with them. I personally like it when they have several different viewpoints in commentaries like director/writer/actor. I have absolutely no problem with other crew members being represented (They are important to and should be heard) but don't do away with actors contributions all together. The actors are who we are familiar with and whose point of view we can relate to the best. I'm dithering on buying the DVD's now. I probably will, but I'll wait until the price comes down. I watch the episodes once or twice, but I listened to the commentaries over and over. It's why I buy them.

I am so disappointed in this. I'm currently watching the S2 commentaries and I can't for the life of me figure out why Gary Jones is on it. What's up with that? *rolls eyes*

Alas, nobody seems to know why Gary Jones is doing Stargate ATLANTIS commentaries....
